We need to remember the people (such as myself) who have dial up internet and no acess to high speed internet. We need to make the game acessible to them, because i mean its a much wider audience and you going to be loosing 15% of your player base if you cant play it on dial up. (That statistic is a rough guess.....)
 
15% doesn't do much to our statistics at all.
The other 85% can play, while you get better internet or something.
I don't think any game has tried to compensate for certain internet speeds.
 
Why do you think runescapes graphics suck so bad..... you dont think its because Jagex just sucks at coding or is too cheap to pay for better graphics.... no their compensating for dial up people....which actually the only reason i do play runescape, because 100 mb would take like 4 days to download at 5 Kbps.

You have to think, what if 13% of that statistic is willing to pay to play as a member? i mean if you look at it from a money POV your loosing out on a good bit of profit.....

Think about it a different way. Say this game, if it's ever made, get's 100,000 people playing. Using basic math, 15% of that much is 15,000 people. So, it does do something to the statistics. And just imagine if those people wanted to buy membership, your losing alot of money there.

So, like Runescape and many other games, we should consider making high and low detail options. Doing this could help us get alot more money hence would help fund the game. I hope you now understand what little things can cause a huge impact. Thanks.

It really depends, if the game was a download able one (compressed as a .rar file) it doesn't really matter if there dial up or not. But if it's embedded on a website, it will have to have crap grapthics and will be shit.

And that 15,000 people will be lagging and annoying other players, so why have them?
If you could have 85,000 non-lagging, happy, players, enjoying the lag-free game,
Why have 15,000 added that will be constantly complaining and lagging the servers?
No offence to you guys whatsoever, but since Runescape is on such a high server level, it can cater for almost anything.
I have GOOD internet, and I STILL lag on some worlds due to the 56ks.
I will say it now and I will say it clear;
Basically no games cater for slower internet.
Name one and I'll be happy to retract my statement.

Now, to the graphics matter.
RUNESCAPE DIDN'T CATER FOR YOU, THEY HAVE HIGH AND LOW DETAIL FOR A DIFFERENT REASON.
Graphics do NOT affect your internet speed!
It's for different computers with lower or higher processing and RAM!
I mean, look at WoW.
Pay to play, gorgeous graphics.
It's not catering for anyone who doesn't think they can play it,
Yet they're making fuckloads of money nonetheless.

You obviously don't know much about Runescape.
It's IN Java so it can run in a web browser (a small notion for the slower internet users)
ALL of it is coded in Java, THAT'S why the graphics suck.
Hence why they're ENHANCING them!
They couldn't care less about their 56k members.
And if those 56kers want to buy members, they should consider spending like, $20 a month for some decent internet!

Last time I checked runescape wasn't peer to peer (like torrents or limeware) its a normal server to client. What sane mmo dev would make a game peer2peer, it's giving a child a gun.
 
Most people who use dial up dont have a choice, its not that we want to have dial up its that we dont have cable or DSL offered where we live. The sattelite internet is crap anyways..... i think it should be put up for a vote....

The only way you wouldn't recieve at least one form of decent internet is if you lived in a small, secluded cardboard box in the desert.

Yes but the members are not getting the money, Sythe is. So why would they care? All they want to do is build a game they would like.. Sorry, but I can see the point of view where by why would quality want to be sacrificed for a minority? It would not. Never know, maybe there will be a low detail version.
 
I say high and low detail.... like Rs, which this is pretty much going to be an Rs/WoW copy anyways.....
 
That means attention has to be diverted into creating two sets of the same world... Soo much work. For a TINY minority.

I lol'd, Get better internet. If a game is runnable on Dial-up its obviously not very good.
 
Mercet, that's your perspective. It's the story-line and amount of thought put in that makes a good game that draws you in, not how intracate and resource consuming the graphics are.

And, lots of people play wow instead of rs because rs graphics suck ass.

That's about 1 million people. (rough statistic)

High and low detail don't depend on your fucking internet, it has to do with your computers stats
