Went last year in the summer. Personally liked Downtown Vegas much more than the strip. If you're gambling, you'll find the best rates downtown on the card and dice tables. Everything on the strip is marked up much higher (of course).

Downtown - Visit Fremont, awesome lightshow thingy, lots of casinos, lots of bars. More reno-ish (if you've ever been). I stayed downtown last year at the Downtown Grand and enjoyed the downtown experience a hell of a lot better than the strip.

Strip - Just wander. Lots of stuff to look at and do on the strip. TONS of people though. You've got real touristy casinos like Ceaser's Palace, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, etc. Expect to shell out a good amount of money though. All the best clubs are on the strip as well, but you'll need to be with girls to get in, or find a good promoter.

If it's your first time, visit both.

I would have told that faggot straight up, that Vegas is a shit hole and guilt tripping others into travelling and spending their own money just to watch him and his future ex-wife say some meaningless vows to each other is a waste of everyone's time. Get married somewhere local and let other people have the freedom to choose where they would like to spend their vacation time.
