Guide to safe trading on Sythe.org

I personally found it rough starting out on Sythe.org and climbing the ranks. Through this some what of a journey i have been scammed quite a few times when i was new but not so much now that i am gaining quite a few posts, more than 40 vouches and learning the ropes, some for newcomers and some from highly trusted members of this community so i have learned a few things on safe trading and this is what this guide is about.

    Being smart -

if the trade itself seems to good to be true then unfortunately it is. Some people will make outrageous deals on sythe to lure people in and scam them on. Best thing to do is just stay away and don't be temped and fall for something so obvious.

    Scam reports -

The very first thing you want to do before trading anyone no matter what post count they have and number of vouches is search their name in the scam section. To do this just click the "search button at the top of the Sythe forum and then go to advanced search. While there just type in the users name into the "Key Word(s)" box not the "User Name" field and then scroll down to "Search in form(s)" now scroll down to the bottom that column and click on "Report a Scammer" and then click "Search Now". If there are any scam reports on the person you are dealing with please view every scam report thoroughly and if there are anything that looks suspicious simply do not do deals with them because you most likely will be scammed and this is a easy way to if the person is legit and trustworthy. Just because the person has a scam report on them doesn't mean they are not legit. Some time the person could have been impersonated or key logged and their account used without their permission. That is the reason you should always read each and every scam report on the user.

    Vouches -

Vouches are usually found in the persons signature bar found at the bottom of every post they create it will have something having the word "vouches" in it but if they do not have one private message the user and ask for a link to there vouches. Once you are in their vouch thread you should see some "quote" messages on there thread now you will need to check what there feedback is for the type of trade you are doing with them. Once you see there vouches for that type of trade click the little arrow in the quote box next to the name of the person quoted. This will take you directly to the original post. If the post is in the vouch thread and it is from a semi-trusted member with vouches or a admin or mod/admin then you can guarantee this vouch is legitimate. Search for as many in the vouch thread as possible and if he/she has a lot of legitimate ones i think it is safe to trade them. If the vouch links to a different thread make sure the vouch is for the actual person you are dealing with buy reviewing the whole thread and same rules from before apply as well such as trusted members. On the other hand if you find this person has a vouch linked to someone elses vouch then do not trade with this person and report them to a mod or admin for fake vouches this is not allowed on Sythe. If the person has a lot of vouches all for newcomers and is semi new (1 month old) then i wouldn't personally trade with them because this could be counted as self vouching which also isn't allowed on Sythe because the person is creating new accounts and vouching for themselves so you would also need to report this to a mod or admin.

    Newcomers/Members -

If the person is a newcomer or member demanding not to go first then this is pretty much a straight up scam no doubt :/. This could be another story if they are using a middle man. Middle men in short help smooth out trades and are usually very trusted people. If you ever feel uncomfortable doing a trade always use one of these people. Official Middle Men are some of the most trusted people on sythe besides the admins and mods because they have done many many trades in their time here and have to be approved by admins or mods themselves, although they usually cost money they are the safest and in the long run they could actually save you money from all the scams they prevent you from. You can Official Middle Man because their name will have a badge below it in posts saying Official Middle Man. All middle men can be found here - http://sythe.org/forumdisplay.php?f=307 . Middle men will do most trades for most games so please don't be stingy and pay for a official middle man until you learn the ropes it's worth it. One more thing, If your a newcomer trading and someone uses the "Your new you go first" card just pull out "I'll use OMM and pay deal?" that will make the trade smooth. Even if your new and the person buying from you or selling to you and uses that then defiantly use a MM or your highly likely to be scammed.

    Impostors -

Simply put an impostor impersonates a member of Sythe to scam the other user. In a situation saying user a is the buyer and user b is the impostor user b will add user a to their MSN that looks similar to the original Sythe members MSN and will attempt to scam user a out of their item or cash. The easiest way to get around an impostor to sort him for the real deal is to ask him to PM you their MSN. This is a simple way to know it's the rite person and also if you get scammed by this person you will have proof that you were talking to them and not an impostor but always make sure the MSN you are talking to is exactly identical to the one that was Pm'd to you or posted in a thread.

    Trade proof -

If you are doing a trade you will always need proof to get the person banned and the only experience i have in trades on Sythe is with Runescape. For enough proof to get a user banned you will need 3 maybe four screen shots (google "Screen Capture Tut"). These three screen shots are essential proof that you got scammed by the real deal and not an impostor. These three to four screen shots should include 1. Picture of MSN conversation and PM or thread, were ever the users msn is shown on Sythe to show that they are identical and not dealing with a impostor. 2. Picture of the item/gold you are trading to the user or receiving from the user with there MSN in the picture also with them saying their Runescape name. This is proof that you are trading the person in the MSN and not some other random Runescape Player. 3. The MSN of your conversation with the user and the whole Runescape screen so mods/admins can see that the trade was accepted. 4. Picture of the PayPal screen showing that you received the money or not.

    Avoiding hacked PayPal accounts -

A 100% sure fire way to avoid a hacked PayPal account is to get the user to call you or you call them, get them to send you a picture of their I.D that matches the name on the PayPal account and also get the user to e-mail you from the registered PayPal accounts e-mail. Although this will not help you with charge backs. For more info on protection from charge backs please visit this link - http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1056701

    Report a scammer -

Reporting a scammer means he will get banned if it is the person on Sythe and not a impostor. If you got all the trade proof mentioned above then there is a very high chance they will be banned. Link to reporting a scammer and also the format to get it done a lot faster - http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=769092

Post is still under construction i still need to add stuff and if you feel as if anything needs to be added please post and i will add it in there :) thanks.

I'm just trying to make it a safer community and make it a whole lot tougher on those scammers.

    Nice guide.

    Pointers;

    Make the guide stand out.
    Make headings bold
make the text in different colours.
If its eye-catchy you'll get more viewers.
