    Just a bit of animation

Not finished, I need to tweak a few things like the camera (I want more angles clips 'n shit), the FPS/animation length (I want to make it grow slower), the material, and I want to add in a bit of animation where it solidifies into a solid gold model at the end with a cute little fade-across opacity animation

Here's a very quick low quality render of the shape:

I really like what you did. I can't help with animation much but I think that it went a bit fast like you mentioned.

that is sick. the only thank that i see is the left an right sides (the wings) are a bit small/faint. like the stick could be a bit thicker or like the edges need to be more defined.

    Just a bit of animation

I have a fix that I'm working on for the lack of definition in the wings of the model. I briefly touched on my idea in the OP, but essentially I'm going to make a solid gold model fade in with a "fade-across" animation (using gradient ramps on a opacity map) right at the end. So in the animation, it's like it builds itself up from nothing into a solid object etc

Sighh I've watched it like 209438324 times, despite the fact that I made it.
I keep finding little things that I just want to tweak a bit..... but I can't efficiently tweak and rerender, it took this animation 30 minutes to render all the frames... I just need to tweak as I go and rerender another draft once I'm satisfied again

Like I said, it's incomplete, I want to solidify the object after the grow animation is done. I just haven't gotten time to sit down and continue

Looked up tutorials on making plants/trees using 3ds max script, modeled the basic solid shape, and formed the vines to the polygons, and used the script to make them "grow" for the animation keyframes

Rendered 80 frames as PNGs, put them in photoshop, used the GIF animator tool there, and made the image with the sythe color background (since GIF has terrible dithering)

    Do you have CS6?

If you render it as a video instead and then import it as a video clip into photoshop I believe it will be smoother.

    Just a bit of animation

I've made the animation where the solid material fades-in at the end, but it's not where I want to stop, and since I elongated the animation considerably, rendering it will take a few hours. As such, I want to get to a good stopping point before I spend time rendering a new version (in case there's something I really want to change again, and have to render it all over)
