    What programming language to learn?

    Hi guys!

I'm in the mood to learn some programming for what ever reason. I don't know what I want to do though :S What are some programming languages that I could learn and what are some interesting/fun things I can do?

    What programming language to learn?

Pascal is great for begginers and teaches good practices.
Python is easy, that is good for begginers, I guess, but the language is very high level, meaning that the language is very abstracted from what it is actually doing, ah nvm.
Also, if you learn pascal you could then use Simba, read their libraries, documentation and use all their utilities to bot.

    What programming language to learn?

Would Pascal be a good foundation to learn other programming languages such as Java?

    What programming language to learn?

Yes, Java is an object-oriented language (It has classes and objects), pascal never deals with classes or objects, once you learn pascal you'll have the basics and you can then learn everything that is specific to object oriented languages, it will certainly come easier to you.
In fact, there are a few object oriented pascal compilers, so you can transition from pascal to those and then to java.

EDIT: If you are going for pascal, I would suggest going for the freepascal dialect, mainly because it's the one I know, because it's easy, because it has an object pascal compiler and because it's what simba uses.

You should start with HTML basics just to get a hang of it, later you can move on more difficult things.

Why beat around the bush? Just learn Java right off the bat IMO. OO is the basic of basics, it really isn't that difficult to learn.

I agree with learning java. If you plan on going to college for anything programing related learning java would put you at a huge advantage as most courses begin with java to learn the basics of object oriented programing. Just my personal experience with US colleges anyways.

Lua. I'm a programmer and I use Love2d framework, for now at least, It makes sense. Things aren't overly complicated. They kind of trade off a few things to generalize things like tables. I find it easier to learn than Python. Even without Love2d it's a great language.

I've never programmed in Python but hear it's good for beginners. C is also good. Have you heard of Codeacademy.com ? It has had a fair amount of criticism but I think its great for people that want to get into coding, its also free

Screw python, go straight for java. They are pretty much the same except I doubt you will ever use python in your future.
