To download the jailbreak. I assume you could just save everything you needed onto a flash drive, but you couldn't get free apps without WiFi on your iPod.

I don't think it's worth it anymore because of the APP store, unless there are certain games/apps you want. Plus, jailbreaking = warranty voided.
