I just want to know everyone's opinion on the current developer team for OSRS.

More specifically, the fact that even with OSRS' immense success, the developer team pales in comparison to RS3's. Seeing as OSRS' player-count comes close, matches and at times even exceeds RS3's, one would think that they would recognize OSRS needs a larger developer team in order to keep the players happy and the content churning out.

This is more of a thread about me stating my opinion, but I find it a bit half-assed on Jagex's part about how they want the players to be happy, yet they hinder OSRS by essentially limiting the speed at which content can be created and finalized. It doesn't mean I think they're slow, but I simply think they could give a thumbs-up on certain content that is more time consuming and be more confident in what they could do with their allotted time.

Either way, i'm pleased, but I still find it a bit biased how they haven't expanded the OSRS developer team when the success is glaringly apparent.

Rs3 makes them a lot more than 07 atm because of microtransactions despite the relatively even playercounts. I think they will be more open to adding more devs after the release of bonds because that will make 07 much more lucrative. Ultimately they see RS3 as having more potential than a game with really outdated graphics ( I disagree ) but this may change soon enough.

If you don't recall, the original osrs team was only 5 members, now were at 8. I guess you can say it slowly expanded, but honestly I don't think jagex will ever decide to switch priorities and make osrs their main focus.

I'm not hop-skipping as far to say that OSRS would become their main focus, but at this point I think it begs to question why has the OSRS developer team not expanded even further? If this were like the RSC to RS2 transition it might be justifiable to maintain such a small developer team, but OSRS matches and sometimes exceeds RS3's count. That alone should warrant a larger developer team; don't you think so?

If they keep changing and adding shit they will just ruin it again. There is also little room for growth since the player base is mostly people who played Runescape before and not people who never have.

I'm actually okay with the pace of the updates in osrs. They just released a shit-ton of achiev diaries, zulrah, f2p...and are planning on doing bonds+easter event

Maybe the improvement could be in places such as customer service which is at 0 right now and on servers

I beg to differ. I did a bit of F2P and had a surprising number of people ask me very basic questions and then express to me they were new.

Customer service in what way?

As long as there is no need for it, jagex won't hire more developers to work on oldschool runescape. I believe Mat K and the team is doing a good job, I mean, most new ideas are released in a dev blogged and polled before being released to the game. Within this time the team has a good amount of time to work on these updates. Oldschool runescape also has much less demands graphically than Rs3, so it would be an intelligent guess to say that OSRS wouldn't need too much man power to develop. Thats just my take on it.

Putting more developers / time into Runescape 07/ Old School Runescape would require Jagex to swallow their pride and admit that an 8 yr old outdated version of the game with a fraction of the added content and development team size is seriously competing with their core game in terms of player-base and popularity.

Good luck getting Jagex to admit that.

Yet they basically do by re-adding content based on the older stuff in RS3 - Retro overrides, Legacy Mode, Revolution mode, skill-capes about to be toggle-able revert, etc.

But overall I would expect there to be less newcomers than RS3.

I remember something Mod Mark said over a year ago where they essentially did admit that EoC was a failure on their part. To be quite honest, I really wouldn't be surprised if Jagex made some extreme compromises in regards to pre-EoC servers, even if it's years to come. I only say this because it took years for us to get free-trade/wild back, and that was a much more minor issue than changing the very fundamentals of the game itself. With the way the numbers are looking, OSRS only has room to grow while RS3 has been stagnant since EoC's implementation. It will be very interesting to see what happens in the near future.

But overall I would expect there to be less newcomers than RS3.

I'm pretty sure when the numbers spiked a J. Mod commented, refuting the proposition that most of the accounts were just alt. accounts. I'm surprised F2P is doing as well as it is considering OSRS doesn't get nearly as much exposure as RS3. If OSRS had just as much exposure I think it would begin to overtake RS3 much quicker.

I don't really think when Jagex realesed osrs they even intended for updates.

I thought they were just throwing an older version of the game out there and it was going to be stable when I first heard of it.

i think 07 rs would become much bigger if microtransactions were introduced into the game. things like bonds, pets, and cosmetics (no xp boosts and shit) would really make 07 rs need more developers.

Eh... I disagree with the MTX part. It was only in the last few years we started to get MTX, although I don't think it's what contributed to the decline, it carries with it the stigma of a beginning of a decline. I don't think a lot of people are opposed to bonds in OSRS, a lot of people are displeased with the subscription increase and bonds would be seen as a positive alternative.

The good thing about RS3's failure is that OSRS can essentially cherry-pick the good parts and leave the bad.

I doubt it. OSRS is an old game and people aren't going to flock to it as if it were new.
