Can Jagex detect RWT ?
Claims have been made by numerous mods on the recent Q&A thread

[ http://services.runescape.com/m=forum/forums.ws?254,255,55,62204744,goto,1 ]

What do you rekon these so called 'methods' are?

( for those to lazy to scan through the thread I have C/P all the quotes regarding RWT )

Q::
If I help my friend giving him amounts of cash and some equipments, will that be considered as RWT? Considering Jagex doesn't know if you had IRL money for the eq/cash.

A
::
We are encouraging people to give other players gifts or lend them some equipment so before we accuse someone of cheating by buying gold we make absolutely sure that we can prove it.
What our exact criteria are, I won't reveal, though, for obvious reasons.

Q::Aren’t you concerned with a resurgence of RWT? Because free trade makes transferring money a heck of a lot easier…”

A::We know that of course there will be those out to abuse free trade but we’re very on the case with that thanks to some very helpful tools and staff

Q::How will you be able to differentiate from someone giving a gift to their friends as opposed to someone completing a real world trade transaction?

A::We have a specialist team of people who deal with cheating all day long, they have excellent tools at their disposal and can tell very easily the difference between people who are RWT and those who are just trading to friends.

Q::Do you have ways to detect RWT?”

A ::Yep,
c

Q::
#1 Im not sure how to word this so im going to give you a situation. One player named "bob" gets a gift (50m) from his friend that is quiting. Another player "billy" buys 50m gold from some RWT site. How can you tell the diffrence between a bob and a billy?

A::Mod Fetzki:
The difference is that Bob won't get into trouble but Billy gets punished for cheating because we can tell the difference. We won't reveal how we do that though for obvious reasons.

Q::Snipervenm:
How will you guys try to prevent a rapid growth of macroing and RWT?

A::Mod Fetzki:
With various efforts like breaking bots, taking macro developers to court, banning or rolling back accounts that do real-world trading and/or macroing and many more things.

Q ::1. how do you plan to stop RWT if you can mention anything at all, i know you can't mention exactly how you do this but are you able to confidently say that RWT will NOT be possible?”

A::The freedom of Free Trade does mean that RWT will be possible. Such is the way of free trade! However, we’ve done a lot of work in the background to minimise the risk. ; )

Q::When the Free trade returns, my friend wants to give me about 20m, maybe an item worth more then 50m+ will we be able to do this without being detected as gold sellers? We've been on each others friends list for about 2 years.

A::Yep, we can tell pretty easily who is just genuinely trading and who is RWT, don’t worry!

I highly doubt this is what Jagex will do, most likely attempting to scare users into believing they can.

Even if they do it off IP's, it could still be your brothers account. I highly doubt anything is in place at all to combat this.

maybe they can tell if the account has been botted on and if that account transfers their cash then theyll ban both accounts

I was thinking the same, I cannot see how they can detect a trade via drop / party chest. Anyway , I will add the quotes and elaborate on my original post so that it can be discussed.

Imo they are just trying to scare us. Besides being on the friends list there really isn't a way to differentiate between someone giving away gold because they are quitting, someone giving gold to their friend who just started, or someone doing RWT.

Yeah, but what if I just invited my IRL friend to play RS and gave him some starting cash?

xactly... Also, If i buy gold, I will make sure that i use a little bit of acting :P

I think it's possible that they just want to come across as being more powerful than they are =]

Thats exactly it. Like for the past years they've been saying there macro detection system is/getting much better. Sure, its better mind explaining why theres 50x more botters then there were in 2007.

They can't detect it. Horseshit

ROFL at "With various efforts like breaking bots, taking macro developers to court, banning or rolling back accounts that do real-world trading and/or macroing and many more things."

They've taken Nexus to court... and they lost.

Yeah, but what if I just invited my IRL friend to play RS and gave him some starting cash?

Good point. But you'd be trading the money to a level 3 though, since he/she would have just started playing. Pretty sure the majority of gold buyers aren't level 3.

And I doubt you would be giving him a whole lot of money.
1milsh at the most. I wouldnt give someone starting out much more than that.

as others have said, I highly doubt they REALLY have any high tech detection for RWT. It's just too hazy to justify banning an account even if they are acting completely suspicious. There are too many variables and with free trade any one could be the reason large amounts of money are being traded, and none of the reasons could be for RWT like gold buying/selling.

With that being said, any attempts to conceal the gold sell/buy should be more than enough to hide your operation, or at least keep it less noticeable than those who are blatantly just trading millions to different accounts every day.
