89% of the community wanted God Wars, myself included even though I haven't been there once. I'm not sure what you have against godswords, since all you did in your opening post was whine about the update.

The period of late 2005 through early 2006 was the game's peak in both playerbase and community activity.

NMZ, maybe, but rares being not rare makes sense.. The reason rares make sense in the RS3 economy is that no one really saw them coming upon release. They're called "discontinued items" for a reason - they were considered to be in normal circulation, then they were discontinued.

 

Personally, my fondest memories of RS are 05/06 F2P... it was the bomb. I'll take when I can get though, 07 is definitely cool as well as the gwd update. I would 07 f2p to be free though, perhaps then it might create some activity on those 2 worlds..

 

I loved 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 (pre November 2012).

EoC I tried to get into but World of Warcraft is the superior model that Runescape is now trying to copy (and fail horribly).

Coupled with the graphical armor update, Mod Mark + Mod MMG really took a lot of the luster out of the game. Just from a personal perspective.

 

Lol number of players does not tell what was the best year. Number of hardcore fans is what it's all about. People with days of playtime. Not newly registered accounts that just started to play "the fun adventures of runescape". People who didn't even know what "PKing at castle" or "TB at MB" means nor knew who Mahatma and the mayhem makers were.

 

2003-2004 were the days.

3 servers completely full at all times.

Frankly... the game was dying, with God Wars here it appears the game is reviving a bit.

 

Introducing GWD significantly boosted activity which is of fundamental importance for such an ancient game, so I'm not complaining .

 

Statistically speaking, 2007 was the most played year of RS, and also the turning point. 05/06 were cool, but there were still a lot of really cool updates (barrows/GWD) that followed it.
