Is this normal for a Parent?
My sister and her daughter live with my mother, her boyfriend, and I. If the baby, who is 2 years old, does not do what my sister tells her to do, such as "pick up your toys", she gets angry very easily. She starts to raise her voice very soon, and before long is screaming at the baby. I have heard her tell the baby she would kill her if she didnt stop crying before, and just a few minutes ago I heard her tell the baby she was going to smack her. After I told her not to talk to her baby like that, she took the baby into thier bedroom and slammed the door. I think I should also mention that my sister is bipolar and has serious anger problems. The baby's father is out of the picture.

I've been thinking that I should call the childs protective services about this. Am I overreacting, or is this serious?

Dont call Parent child services because they will be split up in fostor homes, if she does this agian threaten her and tell her shes going to call child services or call the police and she should stop. if she doesnt stop teach her lesson by Restraining/Hitting her so she knows how the baby feels hoped i helped.

I'd talk with them, but if that crap gets out of hand call the up. There is no need to raise a kid that way.

Thanks for answering, I'll try threatening her with the cops, but I can't hit her. She will call the police if I hit her, I know that for a fact.

Best thing to do is to talk to her when she's doing something like that, such as "It's a baby, it doesn't understand what you're saying" or just take the baby away from her for a while when things get out of hand, she may just need a break for a couple of hours.

Ummm, yes, split up the mom if she is abusing the child. Verbal isn't as serious, to an extent. I've seen plenty of parents say they're going to kill their child. Just an exaggerating expression.

She may be suffering from an actual mental disorder. I think it's called "maternal rejection syndrome." This causes the mother to "reject" or get angry at the baby because she is mentally not mature enough to care for the baby. It's even more common when the father is no longer in the picture.

Before you take an action with child services, etc.. You should seriously talk to her and tell her to see a psychologist/psychiatrist.

Don't call child services, in this case they won't do anything but cause a headache. And it's not a baby it's more of a toddler, and toddlers need to be given a spanking sometimes. But there really isn't anything you can do.

If it continues and gets serious to the point where she is hurting the baby then I would call or reccommend her to a psychiatrist. Until then just keep an eye on her.
