Is there actually life after death?

Hi, I've had this discussion with several of my mates. They think I'm going crazy. I'm a catholic and I go to a catholic school. I'm sceptical about heaven / hell, so the only logical view, are spirits and ghosts ect. What are your views on it?

Because I think Life After Death exists.

Is there actually life after death?

    what

the only logical view is you die, like everything on the planet and are put in the ground. the end.

however for some reason a large percentage of the world believe some cosmic jewish zombie can make you live forever in fairy land if you symbolically eat him and telepathically worship him to cleanse an evil force inside you that only exists because some woman was tricked by a talking snake into eating an apple

if there was anyone with the actual answer to this question, they'd be millionaires.

They would have the world's wealth and more.

I believe that when you die, you die. You cease to exist. I don't particularly believe in an "afterlife" as it is irrational to believe in such a thing. If Catholicism/Christianity weren't around for so long, you WOULD be put in a mental institution for saying that you need to sit and worship someone who you do not know who "saved" you because a girl was tricked into eating an apple by a talking snake.

    tl;dr
    me too.

Seems a bit silly to ask for logical views on spirits and ghosts my friend.

I actually ain't sure if you're being sarcastic or not. i'll go with not.

you 'don't understand' why people believe the big bang? because there is SCIENTIFIC, PHYSICAL PROOF behind the theory.

as for your god. there is 7000+ gods to have ever been mentioned and believed by mankind. you don't believe in 6999 of them right? zeus? amun? hades? stupid to even assume you do. yeah it's like that for me but with 7000.

your god is based on no more than your geographical location 90% of the time.

life after death MIGHT exists, but im pretty sure there is no heaven, nor hell. Maybe we will just start in a new body, and we wont remember our past. Maybe we will go to another planet. Everything's possible

Guessing you have never actuallly researched about religion or what not. And if this "big bang" did exist, its Gods test on you to see if you can actually belive in whats right, and not what others belive that a large explosion created humans and all life on earth. And btw Islam is a world wide religion with many people converting daily, everywhere around the world there are Muslims. Not trying to offend you in any way, just stating my opinions. I would recommend trying to learn about other religions.

study other religions? I started my honors at university in religion and know a heck of a lot more than you in terms of facts, but that obviously doesn't allow me to in any way alter your opinion, because well, religious people are the worlds most stubborn.

'it's gods test' ridicoulous. There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.

I like how you totally shunned my statement on you being 99.9% as atheist as me.

That 'large explosion' you speak about isn't just a big boom and pop man springs up, it allowed the tiniest of microscopic life to form and it has taken billions of years for us to reach this stage. a bit more believeable than Muslims believe the world was created by God (Allah) who when he wanted to create something, all he needed to say was 'Be', and it became.

Is there actually life after death?

    Think about this:

If there is a creation, there must be a Creator.

If there is a Creator, He must be the Sustainer.

    The Creator Cannot Create Himself.

If He is the sole Creator/Sustainer -- He must be ONE.

God must be one. Otherwise we would see great differences and competition between the gods if there were more than one -- Alone.

Do we agree that this is a creation? Or do we accept that nothing came out of nothing to form this entire universe?
This is a very clear message from Allah, in the Quran. Something does not come out of nothing. So, there must be something in existence already which created all that we know to exist. And that "something" needs to be called upon in times of need and thanksgiving.
As Allah has said in His Book: "I only created you all to worship Me Alone."

He also says that we are all being tested by Him with regard to our wealth, families, children and social status

    http://www.scienceislam.com

And here shows how science is in the Quran and that the findings of all these scientists have allways been in the Quran: http://www.freewebs.com/proofofislam/scienceinthequran.htm

Is there actually life after death?

it is because it must be isn't a valid arguement. i'm telling you, there is physical proof and fact to the big bang and it makes LOGICAL sense. a giant man in the sky shouting out orders is not LOGICAL.

Dying, like every other animal is LOGICAL
living in dreamland after dying is not LOGICAL

heaven, an afterlife, they're all created by mans own fear of death. if there was no hope for life after death, there would be little hope in life itself. you believe because you want to believe. you can't comprehend the direness of no longer being here.

onto your idea the quar'an is scientific:

Muslims believe that the Qur'an contains a message from an all-powerful, all-knowing, infallible being. If this is true then it should not contain any errors, mistakes, or information that contradicts known facts about the universe. If even one error exists in the text of Islam's holy book then the claims of divine authorship and infallibility are not true. An objective evaluation of the Qur’an shows that it contains numerous scientific and historical errors and it reflects a pre-scientific, 7th century view of the natural world.
Some apologists will contest these numerous scientific errors in the Qur'an by appealing to metaphor, alternative meanings, or phenomenological interpretations of the text. Even if we suppose that alternative explanations were possible in every case, the wording and content of the Qur'anic verses often mimic the popular mythology and unscientific misconceptions of the time in which they were recorded.
The author of the Qur’an makes no clear or unambiguous statements that differentiate his understanding of the natural world from the common folklore of the people living in the 7th century. If the Qur’an was delivered by an all-powerful, all-knowing being then he would have been able to foresee how such ambiguous and misleading statements would be understood by future generations and the doubts and confusions they would cause. This alone should be reason to reject any claims to its divine authorship.

this includes but is not limited to:

The believe man changed into apes (We know this, through evolution is LOGICAL to believe the other way round)
Animals being able to speak to humans
Mathematical errors which would have been true at the time of writing (2000-3000 years ago) which now prove wrong.
    The earth is flat
    Earth created before the stars
There are only 5 not 7 principal layers to the Earth's atmosphere, and likewise only 5 not 7 major layers to the Earth itself. Allah created 7 heavens to mimic earths layers.
The earth first formed around 9 billion years after the Big Bang. The Qur'an, however, repeats the prevailing middle eastern myth that the earth and universe were formed in six days.
The Qur’an state that humans were created instantaneously from mud or clay. Remember, Evolution wasn't around at the time, so they essentially took a creationist approach because they couldn't yet comprehend Evolution
The Qur’an and Hadith contains stories concerning the 'first humans' and how all people are descended from these two earliest ancestors. It states that humans were created in a garden and then brought to earth fully formed. This view of the origins of human life is clearly contradicted by the numerous fossils of pre-homosapien species that lived on earth for millions of years before modern humans first evolved. Again, 3000 years ago Evolution/Dinosaurs were not existent in humanity's eyes, so this would reflect the view of someone who again didn't know and instead wrote what they assumed logical at the time.

+30000 more errors i'll send you on request.

would an all knowledgeable being really make the same mistakes as a middle eastern man 3000 years ago? ironic that.

dskjfiosf! Simple answer: Your consciousness stops after you die. Nothing happens. You're put in the ground and decay. No adventure after. You cant logically explain ghosts/spirits. Zimmerman put it in the best way.

Well in a average lifetime theres about 40 million minutes and a single minute is a long time so dont fret. Besides if we are lucky and dont do anything stupid we will live a bit longer due to advancements in medicine :)

Is there actually life after death?

Aye, but still, nothing after death? My god is that a depressing thought. Especially thinking about all of the people you have lost in life already + will lose + might lose. If life is forever severed after death, I'll never see those people again. :'(

That thought alone is enough to kill a man.

I hope there's something out there that defies logic, but I don't necessarily believe there is.
