Is the Death Penalty really necessary?

Nothing is ever necessary. I for one do not really approve of the death sentence even though it is good on some levels such as payment costs going down so on for keeping the person alive. But look at all the bad things which compare.

I still think it should not be done.

 

If your father raped your mother and you were conceived, assuming the situation that if your mother never got raped, you wouldn't be alive, would you want this man killed?

Osama Bin Laden did nothing to make my life better or worse. I wouldn't care whether he was alive or dead.

 

This really isn't a moral argument - I have no problem with convenience myself.

The death penalty is extremely efficient at doing what it does: stopping high-profile criminals. Less money is required to kill them than is to keep them in gaol for a life time.

 

Rape is brutal, and on the same level as murder.

I think it's right but if you think about times when they have the wrong culprit..

 

Although many states have decided to remove their death penalty verdict, you can always count on Texas. We have the death penalty and we use it more then anyone, and it works. In Texas, we have these "9th Annual March to Stop Executions", all of the time. We have these "Anti-Death" rally's, it seems, every month. In order for you to receive the death penalty you must:

• murder of a public safety officer or firefighter in the line of duty
• murder during the commission of specified felonies (kidnapping, burglary, robbery, aggravated rape, arson)
• murder for remuneration
• multiple murders
• murder during prison escape
• murder of a correctional officer
• murder of a judge
• murder by a state prison inmate who is serving a life sentence for any of five offenses; [or]
• murder of an individual under six years of age1

Although, I am strongly for the death penalty, statistics show that homicide rates in states with the death penalty are higher than in those without, and have shown similar up-and-down trends over the years, offering little support to the contention that capital punishment is a deterrent.

These are the states that do NOT have the death penalty, although there are a lot of them, Texas, California, Florida, and North Carlina, (States with the death penalty) have a higher homicide rate then the following states who do NOT have a death penalty verdict.

• Iowa
• Maine
• Massachusetts
• Michigan
• Minnesota
• North Dakota
• Rhode Island
• Virginia
• West Virginia
• Wisconsin

Although I strongly agree with the death penalty, it seems that it's not exactly working for the states with the penalty.

 

I guess it would help if all the states were the same size, and had the same population.

 

yes with the death penalty it will eventually stop people from commiting crimes

 

Anybody killed is somebody that could save a life, cure cancer etc.. But I sort of support it.

 

Anybody who have killed before COULD kill again.

 

I don't think that the death penalty serves as an effective deterrant.

I don't think it has any use it's like revenge ,its not necessary they would suffer more alive there whole life in prison that's a better way of taking someones life they can have no goals or joy in life ever again. Not just kill them and put them out of there misery.

Not really, in Canada, the worse it gets is life in prison with no parole

And plus, can't those people on death row be useful? (simple factory job for min wage?)

The death penalty is the only sensible way to sort through the scum of society. To the people that bring up the argument of the death penalty being cruel and unusual.

If you intentionally took someone else's life, specifically children and women, you deserve to be killed under any execution the government finds suitable.

 

The death penalty should be imposed, and it should cover murderers, rapists, drug dealers, and those that have done other crimes (shop-lifting, vandalism, etc.) should be punished (jail for a long time, possible Singapore like actions, or worse). My reason is obvious, look at Singapore. If a drug dealer, rapist, or murderer is caught they are put to death, and guess what? Singapore is one of if not the safest places on Earth.
