Is RS3 still active?

Coming back to RS maybe, considering playing RS3 but everything looks confusing and I've heard MTX has killed the game.

 

OSRS is more active and has a higher playerbase at the moment, and has no MTX as well.

 

What's mtx?

I play both now and again, RS3 is good if you like PvM and have a decent pc, 07 is good for staking/pking
It's still quite active, not as active as 07 but nobody knows excat number of legit players online and not bots.


If you're just coming back you can use "legacy interface" which you should be familiar with, gives you the retro feel, and then when you're used to it you can customize your own interface with rs3

 

Most in '07 are bots, without a doubt. None in RS3 are bots, which is why I don't think RS3 is dying *AS MUCH* as people say it is.

 

Its not active for the most part but just find a decent clan and you have all the community you need.

Rs3 is a good game for folk with a life that can't grind 24/7

RS3 gameplay isn't bad, but the aesthetic is the worst aesthetic a Runescape era has ever had in my opinion. I believe this is a popular opinion too.

That puts a lot of people off of it. It lost its medieval fantasy charm long ago.

The game just looks like a random assortment of different eras and themes. It's a mess.

NXT is incredible, but the game still just looks ugly to so many people. It really started to get out of control from 2013 onwards. I think that's a big reason EoC gets lumped into it all the time. EoC is when the game changed on so many more levels than just combat.

The graphics changed. The themes changed. The MTX ramped up. The updates got less and less substantial. 2017 especially has been almost unanimously and universally labelled the most sparse update year of all time for Jagex throughout reddit/the forums.

It still has a lot of great content. But most people aren't patient enough to see it. Because on the surface I'll fully admit..the game looks like shit. I'm not talking about the graphical updates to areas, because those actually look incredible. I'm talking about the game having no identity anymore.

2005-2009 = where I made the most memories
2009-2011 = when Runescape was the best aesthetic / graphically (IMO)
2012= the beginning of the end
2013-present = Crazy changes to the aesthetic/theme of the game. EoC. Disneyscape items and pets

Also if you cannot run RS3 at Ultra Settings with good FPS, the game really looks like shit.

Yeah Old School's aesthetic shits on RS3's for most people. There's a reason it has more players on at all times. Yeah there are bots. There are bots in RS3 too. I'd say undoubtedly more in old school, but not enough to explain that big a difference. Best case scenario for RS3 fanboys is that it's an equal playing base.

I actually tried playing on the lowest setting to kind of recreate a 2011 vibe on legacy mode. But there's just too much eyesore cosmetic crap in the game. Like I said it just has no identity. And that is synonymous with Runescape 3's launch. It all started in 2013. This cosmetic shift doesn't bother some people, but bothers others. A good amount, I'd venture a guess.

I strongly believe if the thematic elements of the game had remained the same, and RS3 never happened but EoC stayed, the game would be in a better position right now. People really didn't start bitching about MTX until this year. Wasn't as overpowered when they were first introduced.

I always say my least favorite update wasn't EoC, it was actually RS3. 2 of the most game changing updates in the games history happened about half a yr apart from each other. For most it was just too much, and totally understandably so.

 

Most servers are ghost towns, feels rly shitty tbh.

I've never played RS3, graphics look decent, stuck on that oldschool though.

Yes, RS3 is still pretty active. Just don't expect to be jumping into to every minigame and D&D expecting it to be filled. The games mostly EasyScape now, especially with how heavily Treasure Hunter is being used these days.

But yes, to answer your question, it's still very much active.

 

Pking > 07.
Anything else > RS3.

RS3 is active. Worlds 2, 23, 84 etc are very active worlds. Unlock priff and join a clan for the social side of playing. Also there's tons of things you can do afk and xp rates are a lot higher than 07, which is nice for casual players.
