Recovering a password?

I'm fairly certain this is the wrong section and i'm so sorry about that. I couldn't find a relevant location.

I'm trying to recover an account of a recently dead friend =/ he hasn't played in over 5years, but I would love to see him login sometimes. I think it would help me a lot get over my loss of him. I don't know pretty much any information besides his login and how long it's been since he's been on last. I feel i've read somewhere one or more people having successfully re-obtained their lost accounts with only knowing the login, I'm not certain how valid that is or what my odds are of doing the same, but I figure I'd start asking around the internet.

Is there any way to get on? Any chance at all I can achieve this?

Please help, any advice is accepted.

If you can access his computer/laptop on which he used to play RuneScape and the IP is still the same (chances are small) and you know which Internet Provider he used, try to contact Jagex via his computer so they think you're the original owner.

Ask mutual friends or family members, maybe someone knows his password(s) from accounts he used.

That's the only thing you can do I'm afraid. Whatever you do don't tell Jagex he passed away or that you're not the original owner. They will most likely lock the account making it impossible to access forever.
