Yes, given your replies were contradictory, and poorly thought out. Also, stop spamming.

Standards set by society. These expectancies are determined by the majority. Beliefs are inspired through trust, and the understanding that something may be true. The upper majority believe that adults shouldn't be convinced to the existence of monsters, but what does that say to those who are? You believe that society should determine your behavior. Not just that, but you also believe your society is morally just over any other. You demonstrate your beliefs by making them reality through actions. This is what you call manifestation.

"I feel like you can control your own thoughts, actions, and beliefs." - Hey I'm Zac

Beliefs are thoughts. He suggests that it may not be possible to control these three things, hence the choice of words. This is why I called him out on being able to control beliefs. Why would he even mention that? We are all able to regulate what we believe. It's something that is embedded in all life that can comprehend. This is also evident in actions, and thoughts of all kinds. He turned two objective complexes into subjective opinions.

It shouldn't be because you think it shouldn't? You're trying to justify your beliefs by saying the beliefs of others are wrong.

...standards set by reason, not by society. That is the key difference.

What..? Society are the people within a community. Reasoning is the thought that drive people in a society to act out.

People need reasoning to justify their claims. What are you getting at?

I am getting at the point that society is not at all related to true legitimacy of beliefs. I assert that my belief that homosexuals should be given free sexual reign should be held over the contrary opinion because I can reason that the latter belief is incorrect. Nothing else is involved.

How do you determine what is correct and incorrect without being bias? You can't.

This was the point of this thread. There is no right, or wrong to disliking sexual preferences.

Sure, there's nothing inherently wrong with disliking homosexuals, just like how there is nothing wrong with disliking black people, asian people, white people, or being a pedophile. You are free to think and believe whatever you want to believe - or at least that's how it should be. It's not really possible to control thought. But, just as you are free to hold such thoughts, other people are free to judge you for it. If such an attitude is stifling social harmony then there will be a backlash for publicisng such opinions, plain and simple.

There is something inherently wrong with it if it's labeled morally wrong. I wouldn't be able to say that murderers are indirectly helping the populus by maintaining numbers without something other than my words being discredited, or removed. I would be condemned to jail without being sentenced to it. If I fantasized about killing, or raping others, and publicly shared that information, my very existence would be judged by others. But why? Just because I have fantasies of killing, or raping doesn't mean I will eventually do it. There are consequences to these actions that prevent me, and others from attempting said things. Bare in mind I'm hypothetically speaking.

It's the forceful acceptance of ones sexuality that is overlooked because society deems it necessary.

First, I haven't read the whole thread, but it seems your whole argument is hanging on the idea of a phobia against guys. Homophobia is a colloquial term for accepted bigotry against gay people, not a factual phobia. By basing your entire argument around the idea that it isn't wrong to fear something, just as it isn't wrong to fear spiders, then you're basing you're entire idea on an erroneous idea. Then there is the question of morality, do I personally care if you are a racist, a homophobe, or any other kind of bigot, no - but as long as your thoughts aren't driving actions that impede on another's freedom to do as they wish as long as their actions do not impede on another. You can believe what you want, you can avoid those people if you want, and it doesn't matter.

On phone, if there are mistakes apologies.

I was in no way spamming. The reason I made the comment is you're coming off as the type who will argue with a brick wall, all the time, not making any valid points. You seem like you're trying too hard to impress someone. People can be wrong at times. You're on the Internet, discussing a subject that's going to differ with nearly every user. This isn't law class, or a psych lecture.

    Is homophobia a bad thing?

It depends on the classification. In my first post I targeted two ideas, one of which has to do with the actual fear of homosexuality, and the other which is loathing. To say that fear of homosexuality is not real is ignorant. There is the industrialization of homophobia which is projected through religion, and other beliefs of antiquity. If you look at how phobias are developed, it only proves the existence of such fear. I don't use this phobia as an excuse for radical behavior, I use it to show that the very idea is used to belittle and patronize people labeled as a homophobe in the media. Even if you don't negatively express your belief, you're still looked at as a bigot for not accepting the abnormality of a sexuality which is ridiculous. If you find disgust in seeing two people of the same sex kissing, you're a bigot.

Homosexuality doesn't bother me. I'm playing devils advocate to show the ridiculousness of not accepting something so little as a sexual preference. Ethnicity and sexual preference shouldn't even be measured congruently. One outweighs the other completely.

I don't think you fully understand the concept of a debate. It's where two or more parties give arguments, and try to prove one another wrong. If you're unable to grasp that idea, then you're at the wrong forum.

There is a very distinct difference between the vehement distaste for an act of sex and a person. Why shouldn't the two be a measure, if you subscribe to modern thought they are both facets of a person that cannot be chosen by the person.

It's natural to connect a title to a person, in such a way that you treat both the same.

    For example:

The act of stealing : Thief
The act of lying : Liar

These titles define you as a person. It's not surprising that these two subjects can intertwine.

    ~~

You can change your sexual preference, you can't change your ethnicity.

Being homophobic isn't bad or wrong. But acting upon your opinion to try to oppress people or be hurtful to people is wrong. If it's an irrational fear then, yeah, just stay away.

You can think it's wrong and still be civil to someone, same with any other opinion on religion, capital punishment, animal abuse etc.

This issue is, the gay etc movement is on the active attack against the actual persons of anyone who doesn't support their agenda. Chick Fil A caused a national uproar because they didn't support the gay etc agenda, people boycotted the restaurant for it. The "homophobes" aren't being the ones oppressive or hurtful, it is the gay etc movement that is discriminating against, attacking, and hurting heterosexuals because of their beliefs. That's why these social justice movements are bullshit - they are hate groups, end of story.

I don't think you know what you're debating anymore. Your poorly thought out responses have bounced everywhere imaginable. Are you trying to discuss whether homophobia is a bad thing, or show us your skills with using a dictionary?

    Is homophobia a bad thing?

I still can't understand how someone can be afraid of someone else who is gay. Maybe I'm the one in the wrong for not accepting this supposed fear, but most of the homophobes I've personally spoken to seem more angry and disgusted than afraid. You probably talk to more gay people than you think, but if you're a homophobe, you wouldn't know that unless they're open about it.

Then there's the flamboyant guys that may seem gay but aren't, being a common misconception. Are homophobes afraid of them too even though they aren't gay, but seem gay? Then that would mean they aren't afraid of gay people, it would make them afraid of gay people AND people who appear to be gay, which is entirely silly if you ask me.

Opinions are alright, but it doesn't make you any less of a bigot if you're saying something racist, sexist, homophobic, etc.

People who hold negative views on others without a decent reason bother me, so I personally think being homophobic is a load of crap. Someone else being gay doesn't directly affect you, let alone offend you. So I definitely see a problem with homophobia. People are so cruel for absolutely no reason. But there will always be a battle over some group of people.

    Lol

Some LGBT people attacked me and my beliefs.
I now feel it's right for me to attack all LGBT people.

Every single movement, belief system or group has violent people in it. That doesn't mean every single member of a belief system, movement or group should be coined as violent and hateful. Two wrongs don't make a right, just be a decent human being. Who cares who else isn't a decent human being?

I don't know why you keep pulling society into the equation. Reason does not inherently drive people in a society -- it drives people, and these people participate in society. Society is not related to reason in a directly causal way.

I also think you are fundamentally misunderstanding what you are even saying. You are speaking without boundary or restraint and your thoughts are riddled with contradiction. There are two ways of approaching this "issue". Either, morality or any form of "human construct" (that is, the category whose science depends on the substance of our reasoning not on observable data) is impossible (because it doesn't rest on anything concrete) and then we are quite lost in navigating the world as human beings; or, there is a truth in the reasoning power available to us (i.e. I can assuredly say that it is truly wrong to kill another person) and then the world becomes comprehensible and possible to be traversed through reason. If you hold the first view, there is little anyone can say about anything.

Your whole "beliefs are not controlled and an attempt to change someone else's in favour of my own is a mere unjustified imposition (a construct of society)" idea is utterly incongruous. I have debunked it earlier in this thread, but if I were to reformat my attack in a perhaps more compelling manner I would say: It is impossible to hold a contradictory belief. One cannot believe in God and simultaneously deny God. Thus, beliefs are subject to the law of contradiction. The law of contradiction is a system of logic and logic is apprehended through reason. Thus, beliefs are apprehended through reason. Regardless the extent of this apprehension, the fact that it exists at all -- again -- tears down your point.

Appropriately then, when I claim that a person's belief concerning homophobia is unfounded I am appealing to the laws of logic. In the same way that one cannot hold a contradictory opinion, I assert that the homophobic opinion is at odds with the premises of reason by failing to sufficiently understand human nature. Thus, this belief is wrong.

The fact that you associate this kind of logical process with the workings of society testifies only to the intellectual maturity of the 21st century, where we are privy to an unprecedented level of logic entrenched in our societal customs -- but this CANNOT be confused for the source.

Nice straw man fallacy. Why in your wildest dreams (or anyone in the gay etc hate movement) are you trying to justify the encroachments that group does on the pretense that others are trying to ATTACK ALL GAY ETC PEOPLE??? That is lunacy. No one is trying to claim that they should attack all gay etc people EXCEPT for the Westboro group, which is UNIVERSALLY ABHORRED.

The gays etc movement is claiming target status, just like feminists, scientologists, westboro baptist, and other radical hate groups that use this image of equality or freedom for profit or to push their agendas.
