For those of you who don't know, gearscore is the overall score of all your items on your character in game which can be calculated with a gearscore addon. When you are lvl 80 it is important to have a high gearscore to get into raids and dungeons, but is it really necessary? I've seen ppl with a lower gs trhan most ppl do MUCH more DMG or healing etc. BUT GS does give you a general idea of the players equipment, even though some higher gs equipment is worse than low gs equipment. For some though its ruining them because they are skilled rather than well-equiped Full size So I think they should have a new system lol, but thats just my opinion.

I really agree with the author. Do you guys think the gearscore is really necessary?

It's definitely necessary. Just don't roll with people who would take 6k gs person who bought the account over a 5.8k gs who was incredibly skilled.

L2 play.

GS is nothing.

What would you rather have? a 6K Prot Pally with NO Experience in ICC, Or a 5k Prot Pally with Experience?

Experience over GS.

GS is for scrubs who think GS means everything.

Did you even bother reading what I had said? GS is definitely worth it. Why take in someone with blues?

You're just exaggerating the negative communal effects and crying about it on forums like 90% of the WoW nerd population using terms such as "l2play".

Gear score is unnecessary. The game worked fine without it.

Yes gearscore is unnecessary, but it makes finding groups for this and that, that much more simple. Its just a fast go to for picking one noob from another in trade. You dont know if people will know strats or not but it comes down to would you rather have a badly geared idiot or a well geared one?

When you look at how decent guilds run their application forums they dont ask for your gs, theyll go through your armory looking at your spec/gems/chants and make a decision based on that. If im forming a VoA and have a person post me asking to come im not going to go through all of that, a quick "gs?" will sort it out for me. The game is so easy it doesnt matter, two decent people can easily carry anything under icc. Wouldnt know much about pugging icc, done it all with guild.

What it boils down to is that its impossible to determine if someone knows their rotation/strats or not when you pull them out of trade, but a well geared idiot mage will pull more damage then a badly geared idiot mage.

Bit of rambling sorry tl;dr gearscore = level of gear =/= skill

I would take the 6k prot pally tbh, its not hard to learn strats and his gear would carry him to some extent. 5k Prot pally is terribly undergeared for icc, not sure how it holds up with the +__% shit but 5k gs is heroic(new ones)/ToC10 gear. Him knowing strats wont make the boss hit him for less damage. Understandably if the 6k pally was fob or something and had no clue how to play his class id start looking in trade for a third pally tank.

Gear didn't tell you how experienced or skilled someone was before Gearscore came along, nor does it now. It's only useful as a way to quickly dismiss vastly under geared players.

Yes. I do not wish to recruit a character with under 4k GearScore for an ICC raid, when they would not have the equipment needed to hold aggression against my DPSers, or Healers. I also would not like to have my Healers not be able to keep up the raid on base that the tank and raids can't be healed with HoTs well enough.

That being said, I don't believe that GearScore says everything. There is a reason why WoW-Heroes will show people at a certain GS in "yellow" for a while. Experience will always overcome GearScore, but GearScore can save me some time when trying to find a group, and some fresh 80 tries to ask me to run.

um yes gs is in some cases..
because seriously? lets host an icc10 with HM.
you got experience but a 5k gs? seriously? you know the fight
but gratz on pulling on the 2k dps.

only role that can go without gs, are healers.
my holy pally had a 5.2k gs and i beat people with 6k gs.

Dps - yes
Healers - no
Tank - yes

The fatal flaw with gearscore is that people could be gemmed completely wrong and still have a high gearscore. As an elemental shaman, I could gem for attack power in every slot and still have a 5.9k gs ._.

Exactly. That's why gearscore shouldn't be used as a be all, it should be used as a reference. If they don't have a gearscore anywhere close to high enough for the instance, you can go ahead and look over them. If they do, you can then take the time to check their gear itself for correct gemming, enchanting, itemization, etc.

um, you guys clearly dont have the gs addon.
when i host icc's i inspec people by using there gs and /gs.
/gs gives me there experience on every raid since wotlk started.
and i check gems, enchants, and etc.
sorry but greens and blues dont cut it for me.

Most people simply judge it by the tooltip in the bottom right corner.

Very few people even realize that GS can do those things. Especially with the new Lite version out, I don't believe that one even has those functions. Most people tab over a unit frame/player, see their GS, and invite them without further inspection.

ya i understand what you are saying.
any moron can have have gs.
he could be a ele shaman stacking enh gear.
hunter in restro gear, etc.

but like i said earlier, gs matters more for other roles.
id take a 6k gs tank over a 4k gs tank anyday.
id take a 6k gs dps over a 4k gs dps anyday.
as for healers ill take like 2-3 without a high gs, but ill just ask for haste, sp, and etc.

edit: also i ask dps, for ap, str, agil, etc for what there class is suppose to stack.

I wouldn't take either of them. I would wait until someone with the gear for it (gs) and that knows the fights.

You are the typical arrogant player that thinks he is the shit. Gearscore is a good addon, it helps you gauge the persons item levels so you can quickly check if they have the proper gear for the instance. If they do, then you can ask if they know the fights, etc.

You don't simply check gearscore and bring them into the group.

You can never tell if they know the fight or not. Most of the time they say they do, but once in the fight you will find out how much they fail.

So both GS and Achievements are useless.
The best thing is to find a raiding guild, solves all your problems.

Gearscore is important as it really does improve your skills IF you know how to play your class.

Thus, if you are well geared but have no idea on how to play your roll. People will call you "fed" meaning you were literally fed your gear and just suck.

However this is not usually the case as people with high gearscore are in prestigious guilds, any how they got there is obvious. By being good.

Well put, I believe this sums up the thread. Gearscore is important to an extent, and people who completely ignore it are morons.

Gear score is nothing, i just cry when i see people who sub ot a lower gearscore healer or something who has been known to do a hella lot better heals than the crappy higher GS replacement who dies in the fight straight away.
