IRC in Review: Suggestions

Okay, recently there has been a significant amount of complaints about multiple things on the IRC, including the lack of cooperation between the forums and the IRC.

I'd like to open up to the community, specifically the ones that frequent the IRC as to what they would like to see on the IRC as an improvement.

If you have a suggestion for the IRC, anything could be helpful, please post here. If you do not feel comfortable posting here for whatever reason, feel free to PM me or contact me in the IRC.

 

The abuse needs to stop.

The last time I was on the IRC, I was killed immediately by Shinoda when I joined #sythe. After reconnecting, I was killed by x9. I didn't post in the abuse thread, because nothing gets accomplished with that thread.

 

And enlighten me as to how I can combat abuse if you don't tell me about it?

 

There are many abuse reports with Shin, has anything ever been done? >_>

 

I think we need to get it more active. (genius)

Maybe get more fun things going rather than stupid boring discussions that are repeated every single night. People get bored and sign off. School is kind of a main reason as well :3

This is the problem with the IRC.

Really, #sythe is fun place, abuse is often but as of today Shawn, actually fixed it. Props to him and now it's getting more active. Everyone who abuses, literally loses status

 

All shawns done in my mind is stepped up activity.

But sadly in my book it's quality of quantity. The quality of person just isn't there anymore. Too many whiners. People should stop being dumbasses. Sadly, this requires a bit of oper enforcement. I guess these soft people can't handle a little manhandling. My advice is crack down on the true abuse (i.e. pen getting abused), and let the idiots be abused as necessary (i.e. SIMMA). I think this is the only way to get a decent userbase for this IRC. Let the whiners whine, thats always how its been done in the past.

Sidenote: Don't delete this god damn post. It's 100% legitimate ffs.

As stated above, activity is a major role...

If I am able to get more users in my IRC, the day it's made, that #sythe, then something's up.

Possibly offer some sort of intensive to attract more people to IRC? The IRC rank isn't too useless. Also, most of the staff today are staff because they're in the IRC. People don't know the potential in it.

 

I've been in the irc for over 3 years and never got the rank... So like, eh? But yeah, IRC helps in getting to know the other staff better.

 

Honestly just permanently ban those few people that annoy the fuck out of everyone else and it's already looking a shitton better. Fouis is right when he says that it has indeed become merely a state of quantity.

 

And Everybody thinks everybody else is the problem...

 

I've made a significant effort to cut down on the abuse I give out. No need to be scared of me, I only bite sometimes.

 

Then get some balls and decide who is right then side with them.

I think the biggest problem with the IRC is the fact that users who don't seem to be very knowledgeable about IRC and who are pretty new to the IRC are often given these high positions of power.

I'm not going to name names and point fingers. The people themselves are usually very nice and all and I certainly have nothing against them and enjoy talking to them, but I just don't think that they are suited to have power and I also notice that like 85% of the abuse reports come from them. I'm not just talking currently either, this has been happening for a while, like with certain members giving Filefragg a little lovin' back in the day and ending up with lots of power, only to abuse it or fuck something up or whatever (who culd dat be?).

Like I said, I have nothing against the people themselves, and honestly I realise that probably nothing will be done about this in the present, and that's probably ok... But I mean in the future, let's not go giving out high access to lowly members because it just creates drama and shit.

The other problem with the IRC is that stupid members don't know how to act when someone is being a tool to them. If a higher access member in the IRC kicks, KBs, insults, laughs at you etc., then there are two good options to choose. Ignore them or Tell Shawn (or other opers I guess, but they might not care) you can even do both for a greater result.

But we have fucking kids coming in, and us members with a little more power poke fun at their antics, even something small, and the new members fucking flip ouit and whine and we see the very gracious posts and threads, "ZOMG I went in2 the IRC and fukers just r mean to me. dunt go in der, it is for losers."

Though this is totally hilarious and nothing is more fun than laughing at noobs, it does mean that we're losing the option of meeting new members and increasing activity on the IRC, which sucks also.

Other than that, the only problem is that I don't have my loper back. >_>

Sythe IRC, I think is following the same path that the website is going towards, just at a slower pace.
