Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone wanted to help me put together an introduction / welcome page that will be shown to new visitors to the site. Basically a 'tutorial island' for getting started in the market and the community; Where to go, what to do, what to look out for, how to get your first vouches, etc.

It should be simple, visually appealing, and written for people who don't even necessarily understand how forums work. You can do it in HTML, or in bbcode, I don't mind.

Looking forward to seeing what people come up with.

Contributions from community members will of course receive credit at the end of the work. If you guys want to work together and collaborate you can have all your names listed.

Cheers,
Richard

Sure. You should really just set up a Wiki though.

You could probably pull resources from the big market guide that was created earlier this year.

Do you mean we should have a Sythe Wiki? Or that you want a wiki for making a tutorial island page?

Both. Basically, I think SuF had a project earlier on where he created a thread compilation of FAQs, but a Wiki page would allow us to have a page about everything, and then have a "tutorial" landing page which would describe Sythe and have links to all the Wiki pages.

Anyway, I was thinking something like this would work out for new users:

03f6e7293ec6cd5284f58e4452a9ec88

People would stay within that box, click around, go back, and the questions/answers will be obvious and fast/easy to read rather than looking like a manual to your electronics you just throw away. Comments?

nice c:

I'm glad this is happening. I was about to make a post asking how to become trusted enough to sell an account (and what to do in order to sell an account). A wiki would be really helpful.

I'll start working on one, I've got some free time on the train :)

What is Sythe.org
Sythe.org is a black-market, known as “The Craigslist of Virtual Goods”. ‘Sythe’, also known as Richard, owns it. He is the ‘Director’ of sythe, the overall admin, who has complete control over the site. Most people come to sythe.org for the markets, which are in RuneScape dominantly, but also WoW, SWTOR, D3, ROTMG, GW2, RS Private Servers, XBOX sales and even Steam sales! There is also a lot of talk about RS Cheating, as back in the day sythe hosted it's own bots, such as sythe powerminer. There is also a programming section and GFX section, and of course the Off Topic and notorious Spam Forum. Even though sythe is one of, if not the biggest blackmarket online for RS related sales, we still have a lot of people who are either new, or what we call 'lurkers'. Lurkers view the forum a lot, but never actually join!

The Rules, Punishment & Reform
The Rules. This is the most important thing on sythe. Follow the rules, and you will be fine, but if you don't, there are consequences to face. They can be found (http://sythe.org/sythe-org-news/148431-sythe-org-official-rules.html). Some rules such as spamming give minor punishments, but others, such as scamming have have effects on your sythe.org career, mostly ending it forever. Only people who are highly trusted or reformed will get a second chance, after going through the High-Pardon system. If a user is banned, they can file a dispute, or a high pardon if they are admitting to the crime. http://www.sythe.org/request-pardon/1302310-collective-approach.html is how a pardon works, and http://www.sythe.org/request-pardon/1302314-stipulations-regarding-pardons.html are the pardon rules.

The Markets

THIS IS CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION --MORE WILL BE ADDED INTO THE INDIVIDUAL SECTIONS AS WELL AS TO THE CONTENTS.

I'd be perfectly happy with that setup. Or we could just be simple and make it a thread and PM all new users a welcome PM that includes that sort of information.

I could write content for it.

So are people still interested in working on this, or should I just come up with something myself?

Majority of the content could be pulled from SuF's Sythe FAQ to be honest. Then get iJava and Sellerman to fill in the blanks.

I could set up a contest or we could do some collaboratively (that rarely works well though).

I'm in favor of a run-on thread so to speak, whomever is in charge posts what they've done and what they need...any user can throw his/her two cents in so long as it's regarding a tweak to the content provided. Depending on how long Sythe plans on leaving the thread open, it can be stickied for the time being.

I personally think that a guide for new people like myself would be nice. :) It would help us navigate around the site with more ease and learn how to do different things.

I'd be interested in writing a few things to keep people safe on the market. I'll submit something which will cover common scams, and things to take into account when trading. Too many people get scammed when they start out here, I imagine a significant portion of people just give up on the whole forum all together after being scammed on their first trade. Or, even worse, they get the impression that the best way to make money is to use Sythe to scam. If you want to retain active members, the best way to do it is to educate new users and have them trading smartly right from the start.

You could even make the argument that people answer a brief skill testing survey before becoming a member here. 3-4 basic questions which basically enforce the fact that:

- Imposter scams are common
- Accounts can be recovered
- Paypal can be charged back

If someone can be the lead project manager, and list us what jobs need to be done, maybe people who are interested in helping can pick which job they would like to complete to speed up finishing this.

This sounds like a really good Idea. I know that just reading the brief little explanation you have given here I have learned more already then I knew before. So, If someone was to elaborate on it I think it would only help.
