Introduction to Mechanical Keyboards

I daily program/game on my red switches. I have a cooler master quickfire rapid, the build quality is superb. Sturdy, even a bit heavier than most keyboards and just overall of sound build. Noise is perfect IMO and there is more than plenty feedback from the keys. I do not have the fullsize which I regret not getting, there are no macro keys either, however I did not see the purpose of having those. If anyone is interested: CM Quickfire Rapid

 

Cherry KGB Corsair for the win. Definitely look into it boys.

Great post. I'm probably going to trade my blues in for reds. I share an apartment with my girlfriend and the clicking noise that comes off my G710 cannot be understated. It's seriously loud as fuck.

 

Could you please give the name of that exact keyboard? I'd like to check it out.

 

Ducky shine 3 with green led's

There are new ducky shines out though.

 

Blues are insanely loud but other colors are all significantly louder than a membrane one as well. You might want to get some o rings to dampen the noise more.

I'm building a gaming desktop and I've been looking for a keyboard to go with it. I've only used laptops so I have no clue what I should look for in a keyboard really, but I've been thinking about the Corsair Strafe. It's like $132 CAD right now, so idk if that's a good price or what.

 

I currently run a HHKB Pro 2 which runs with Topre switches. I use a Pok3r in the office, which my co-workers complain about but that's their own business really. It boosts my productivity with quicker typing.

I still really don't understand how people still use membrane keyboards. Go back to find your parents IBM Model M in the attic or basement and use that, it'll still be better than anything you're using at the moment. They're also worth a mint.

Does anyone else use custom keycaps too? If you're looking into it, definitely go for some Double Shot PBT Thick keycaps.

Currently have two keyboards that I love right now. One is an Azio MGK1 with Kailh blues and one I just got in Japan which is a AJAZZ Geeks AK33 with black switches. Not your typical cherrys, but if you're not an elitist, you'll barely notice the difference. If you're looking for budget, these are pretty g.

 

Tried out the blackwidow but after 3 days the noise went from satisfying to just very annoying. I'm planning on replacing it with a ducky keyboard in the next couple of days

Nice concise guide. I actually wasn't aware that you could get switches without the nasty clicking sound. May consider getting one in the future.

 

Most of them don't have a clicking sound actually, any noise comes from bottoming out the keys.

You can fix this with noise dampening o-rings or heavier keys if you tend to pound on the keyboard.
