Internet Disconnects Randomly - help please!

Paying 1mil to whoever solves this problem.

I have this problem where my internet will disconnect at random times. It will happen around 5-10 times a day. This prevents me from doing things like kalphite hunting or fight caves.

My modem has 4 lights in this order:

Power Ethernet DSL Internet

When the internet is working, all 4 lights will be on. But when it randomly disconnects, the DSL light will be blinking rapidly and the internet light will be off.

My internet plan says '1500k broadband'. I only have one phone and one modem and they are both connexted to the same filter.

Sometimes this random disconnect will make the internet not work for HOURS if I dont do anything when it disconnects. However when I pick up my phone and dial random numbers as soon as the internet disconnects, then 90% of the time the internet will be fine and work again. I am not kidding about the dial random numbers part.

Please help me, this has greatly reduced my experience on Rs and prevented me from doing things that require a consistent and reliable connection. I have used 2 internet providers and both have the SAME problem. But my friends and stuff done have this problem!

I get the same problem, i hate it.

I always thought it was just my Ethernet cables getting loose.

Crazy.

It sounds like your modem is loosing its connection to your ISP and thus loosing its IP address to fix this call your ISP and have them check your line from their end. You could also run ipconfig and see if you still have a valid IP address. Sometimes, a simple power cycle (unplug the modem, wait 2 minutes and plug it back in) will pull a new IP and restore your service.

this has happened to me in the pass, i called my ISP and they told me to unplug the power to my modem for 30seconds then plug it in again, then it works.

That also works, but you wait it will do it again if you dont sort it out properly.

Mine does it constantly, unplugging the modem and plugging it back in works, but it's only a temp fix for it. I need it fixed properly.

Yes. Ive tried connecting them seperately but it doesnt help either.

Unplugging the modem is a temp fix, it will just randomly disconnect again. I need a perm solution.

try ringing ur host, then re-connect ur internet connection.. If this dont work then buy a new modem.
Oh and also check ur phone line and otha cbales

I have the exact same problem. I think it has something to do with Bell Canada. Not sure but sometimes power cycling it doesn't work.

Well, you sorta revived a dead topic...

Check for faulty hardware. A lot of problems arise from broken pieces, and people simply overlook them.

It could also be spyware (or any other fancy word variants); they might be bogging up your connection. Try running a scan.

I had this problem with my modem when i had wireless internet it kept dissconecting then randomly connecting again but i got a 50ft ethernet cable to run to my bedroom so maybee if you have wireless then get a long ethernet cable...thats my permenent fix sugestion for you.

This doesn't look like its been actually answered so here goes.
The reason why your DSL light is blinking is because there is little or no synch signal from your ISP.
How to fix it?
Call your ISP and tell them you have a weak synch signal and your connection keeps dropping out.

If your connecting wirelessly, try lowering your speed. Example: lower it from 100Mb/s to 75mb/s or however low you seem like it will work.

If none of the above works, get a new router or gateway. :/
