Installing SMF/Getting Webhost

Purpose:Well, a lot of people want to start their own forums and their not sure where to start. Usually people like to start with things like Invision Free and SMF For Free, well usually these communities get no where.

What you need:

• SMF Package
• Hoster

How to get SMF
You can download SMF from Simplemachines.org to make it easy for you, just click here.

How to get a hoster
Well, webhost are free and can cost money, if you are just starting off I recommend a free one.

Recommended Paid Host

• Woeps - Best I've ever used.
• Host Monster

Now, sign up with one of these host whether its free or paid, you should receive an email similar to this

For now go to the website which would be, http://panel.byethost.com Login with your username and password mine would be
Username:b18_1931329
Password:Monster

Once your logged in click on mySQL Setup, mySQL Databases, or Databases something in that nature. Now in the Create database categorey type in smf and click create database.

Now click on file manager, and delete all other existing files in there. Now click upload file. Click the browse button and look for the SMF file we downloaded earlier.

Once its uploaded you should see the file click the check box next to the file, and click Extract or Uncompress.

Now that you done type In your URL mine would be http://tutorial.byethost18.com once your there you should see a SMF Installer Now Fill in the Following...
1.) Forum name - This is going to be the name of your community
2.) MySQL server name - Mine would Be sql110.byethost18.com you need to find this out from your hoster in most cases its localhost
3.) MySQL username - This would be your username you received.
4.) MySQL password - This would be your password your received.
5.) MySQL database name - Would be the mysql name you setup earlier mine would be b18_1931329_smf

Now enter your information for your account and enter your password that you received in the email.

Now Click the checkbox and click your newly installed forum.
