IDK guys...

Well after lurking these forums for quite a while, i decided to make an account and achieve my goal of purchasing a new main account. I must say that after a week of scouting threads, making offers, and going through with several of them, i'm left with very mixed feelings, to say the least.

First attempt to buy an account was from a guy with a ton of vouches and a high post count. I foolishly offered to make the, as i now know, foolish move of going first. He just flat out took my money and blocked me. Long story short, after hours of trying to hunt the guy down, i finally was able to reverse the trade and get my money back.

I then sifted through dozens of scammers (refusing OMM, the usual stuff) for days and finally bought a 134 main for an amount over $200. I insisted on no recoveries, email, or PIN at the time of purchase. I recieved the account, set my recoveries, and all was well.

Or so i thought. im now in a situation where the account is locked at the information the indivdual provided was faulty. I have still have options at this point as he is communicating and paypal can be reversed.

But i realized that i can never be truly happy with my account. Sure ill have recoveries and all, but no matter who i buy an account from, ill have to live with the possibility that the owner will decide to recover it a year later. I really hope someone can prove me wrong here, but i doubt it.

This really pisses me off as i thought i could really enjoy the site with the mils trading, char sales, and item discussions. So, sythe members, just how prevalent is scamming here, can i ever safely buy an account, and is it worth my time to stick around here?

There ARE legit members of Sythe, you just gotta find them.

Who is the member with a lot vouches and high post count? Are they now banned?

 

You just need to look for more trusted sellers. When I say trusted, I don't mean 25 vouches for training accounts. Look for people with old join dates(possibly from 2008 or sooner), high post count(don't completely base trust on this) and plenty of vouches of actual trades, not just training 10-30 woodcutting. You could also use an OMM, or a HIGHLY trusted MM and have them verify the information the seller has prior to the trade. Sorry to hear about you getting scammed, but it's a learning process. I hope I just helped.

 

That, and also do background searches on people you are buying from. Also make sure their vouches are not faked.

 

Oh, and just to give you my 2 cents.
Before doing a 200$ trade, even with a trusted member, use an OMM!
Oh, and verify that the vouches are REAL!

We don't encourage account buying - in fact, we have stickies warning users not to. However, given how many users want to buy/sell them, it's something we have to provide.

If you do have to buy an account,
1. Get personal information from the seller as needed (ex, phone number)
2. Verify the recovery information by getting the MM to test it
3. Ask the seller why he's selling the account. If he's "quitting RS", check the account's recent activity via the RS log.
4. Check the seller's reputation (and the RaS forum)
5. Check the seller's other threads, for indications that they've sold the account before.

Sorry to hear that buddy. I bought a account off USFINE 2weeks ago, for 375$ minus half since they owed me it. Just hoping it doesn't get recovered) I hear R2P has some accounts sales every now and then, check his website maybe even.

I would ALWAYS use an OMM for an ACCOUNT. I wouldn't buy from anyone who just joined the site 2 months ago either. They'd have to be someone with a lot of vouches and respect from others members. The legit members know that scamming is not worth being banned from this great community.

 

Don't let yourself get pressured into a trade. If it seems to good to be true, it probably is. If somebody is offering you something for a very cheap price, and they find a reason why they need a quick trade, be very suspicious, and if I were you just walk away. I have bought 3 accounts from here, 2 have been recovered but the other 1 hasn't yet so it looks as though there are some legit account sellers.

 

Well if your still looking for an account, I have a few for sale. I'm open to using an OMM.

 

My new recent policy is that I test recover every account I buy, or an MM has to test it.

This way the worst case scenario is that you buy the account and you end up having to share it with the original owner. But if you know the information works, then you will have access to it.

Most people who sell their accounts and are willing to allow an MM to test recover are legit sellers, I recomend doing that.
