James, http://www.sythe.org/members/136508-james.html

Has closed my laser thread, http://www.sythe.org/non-virtual-sales/1674839-extremely-powerful-blue-laser.html

He writes:
These are illegal and VERY dangerous in the wrong hands, I am fairly certain one needs a permit to even own one.

Fore reference, the US has a limit of <5mW output on lasers and the Netherlands has a limit of <1mW output on lasers., red, blue, green or violet.

PS. This is a violet laser, not a blue laser, there is a big difference.

James is making accusations that are far from true and inappropriately closed my thread for no reason. I will address each concern below.

1. The laser is NOT illegal in the United States nor do you need to acquire any type of permit or license to own or operate one. Please refer to the United States DOL website, https://www.osha.gov/dts/osta/otm/otm_iii/otm_iii_6.html where it details how ALL lasers are LEGAL when built in the United States. Here's another CRS report from CONGRESS detailing the legality of the lasers, http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/RS22033.pdf . Very dangerous? Yes. I am careful that I sell to members who are mature, and are over the age of 18 years. Is this necessary? No, but I choose to hold myself to high standards and minimize the chances of anyone under 18 getting a hold of a laser. The laser is just as dangerous as an standard 5mw laser, you don't point it in someones eyes. Refer here for safty information.

2. The laser is BLUE, if James had taken the time to evaluate my post and pictures he would clearly see the laser is a BLUE 445nm laser, as properly listed in the thread title and description. Video have also been made available to confirm it is a blue laser. I apologize that pictures may come out distorted and you are unaware of your mistakes... James.

I don't mean to come off rude but I have sent a message to James with no response. This is clearly an inappropriate thread closure and should be reopened. Absolutely no rules nor guidelines have been broken, the product is clearly legal as proof has been given above from official government documents. All considerations are appreciated...

Thank you,

Hello GamerFanatic,

There is no reason to make a dispute right after you PM me the same message.

These lasers are HIGHLY dangerous, as you know, and yours do not even meet the safety requirements!
You simply modified a Chinese built flash light (I own several of this brand and know exactly what I am talking about) and put a laser diode in there.

Not only is this extremely unsafe when done wrong, it is also extremely unsafe when it is done right.
You flashlight-laser does not come with the two-switch safety feature that is required on Class IV lasers and if that's not enough your statement of "The laser is just as dangerous as an standard 5mW laser" just goes to show how idiotic it would be if we allowed this.

By definition, a class 4 laser can burn the skin, or cause devastating and permanent eye damage as a result of direct, diffuse or indirect beam viewing. These lasers may ignite combustible materials, and thus may represent a fire risk. These hazards may also apply to indirect or non-specular reflections of the beam, even from apparently matte surfaces—meaning that great care must be taken to control the beam path. Most industrial, scientific, military, and medical lasers are in this category.

Feel free to ask for a second opinion, but I am never going to allow the sales of lasers this strong on a forum whose main user base are, sadly, too immature and too young to own/use these lasers, properly built or not.

tl;dr: NO. Not on Sythe, not on my watch, even if by some loophole they are legal in the US.
