In Memory of Shawn

While I'm most certainly not the most qualified person to be making this post, I felt the need to do it lest someone forget. So here it is. For those of you who are not up to speed, this Saturday is the 1 year anniversary of Shawn's suicide. I think it respectful to take a moment to discuss what we remember about Shawn, and things we liked about him.

My Memory

I started talking to Shawn on MSN and we got along pretty well. This was before he became SFA mod and whatnot. He was interested in a lot of things, and wanted to get involved in computer activities and such quite a bit. We stopped talking as much after he took over the IRC, but he was still pretty cool. He'd always pick on me whenever I started a debate however, he was such an easy troll ^.^.

 

I was actually going to post a thread like this tomorrow...

RIP Shawn.

I stopped going on the IRC when he passed. It just wasn't the same without him there. We weren't ever amazingly close, but in the weeks leading to his death, he was definitely talking to me a lot less. Before that, however, we used to just have random conversation on MSN.

I remember this... I used to IRC a bit when he was stil there. Never talked with him though. R.I.P.

 

I remember Shawn_ explaining Darren's theories and arguments to me in #SFA. He was the kind of guy who went out of his way to help others, and I remember in particular, taking upon the responsibility of the personal support thread. If I wasn't banned I'd be posting this myself, but thanks for everything Shawn.

I seriously loved Shawn. I honestly still think of him every day. I miss him more than words can describe. I still look back through old MSN logs, IRC logs and WoW screenshots. He was such a hilarious guy and I'm glad that I supported him through much of his depression, encouraged him to seek help etc.

His death still shocks and hurts me to this day. Strange thinking that someone I used to speak to every single day will never speak to me or anyone else again. He was so easy to make conversation with. Such a friendly and level-headed guy. One in a fucking billion.

Love and respect to his family, always and forever.

I was not around during his time here, however my respects to him. From what has been said he sounded like a good person, its a shame that his circumstances could not have been prevented. Blessings to his family as the anniversary gets closer.

 

His death still haunts me.

I don't mean to be ignorant, for I was away from sythe for a year or so and was never really in IRC, but who was Shawn? I remember seeing the name but never really knew him.

 

He was always cool to talk to, sad to have seen him go the way he did. We will ALWAYS miss you, R.I.P.

 

I most clearly remember his will to help others. He was a great guy.

I was going to make a thread.. he'll forever be in my signature. I miss him a lot.

We had our times in the IRC. We would chat every day. I remember he transferred to my server on World of Warcraft. I lended him 2,000G and he voiced me on the IRC. He then paid me back and removed the voice (requested), and was gone from us all not much later.

There are many other times that I had spent with him, but they're memories I can't quite recall. All I know is that he was a great friend to me, and he has been and shall continue to be missed by many.

 

I remember that him and I got off on the wrong foot and would clash often on the forums and in the IRC. Then, once I quit going on Sythe before I became a mod and came back a few months later, he had completely forgiven the arguments we had had before, so we became more friendly with each other. It wasn't like what others had with him, we didn't speak on MSN, hell, we rarely spoke at all. But the times we did in IRC we had collaborated on strange theories and picked on Darren once or twice for his strange ideas, too

Good kid, I hope he found what he was looking for.

 

It's a shame I never met him. He sounds like a wonderful and caring person.

Jesus Christ... Suicide. That's terrible. Poor kid...

I can only imagine the pain that his family must be going through on this terrible anniversary. Wish I had joined a couple years earlier and met the guy; from your memories I can gather that he was a great guy. This thread almost jerked a tear out of me.

I will pray that his soul has found eternal rest, and that freeing himself from his earthly cage has helped him achieve some greater form that we cannot comprehend.
