The meaning of life to me is to procure knowledge and share it with others so that human kind is better prepared for what is yet to come.

 

Every single action you take is in an effort to continue the survival of your genes.

Just try and argue against me.

 

The meaning of life to me is just to go with the flow and stop worrying about the past

 

The meaning of life is for you to give life a meaning.

 

The same as any other animals: Self-preservation in order to reproduce.
Edit: I would also say that bringing enjoyment to our lives and fulfilling our desires is an important part of our existence, but the big picture is the continuation of our species.

 

Reproduce mainly and gain knowledge.

 

Well, I can argue against you by giving you a very simple example.

You say every action that you take is to continue the survival of your genes, but what about smoking?

I usually wear a condom, in an effort NOT to pass on my genes.

Smoking is cool. Some ladies get turned on.

 

Everyone else might think it's funny, but he's entirely right. We are highly intelligent beings, so we seek further meaning than what we're actually supposed to be doing. We're animals just like a cat or a dog, we're in reality no different. We live our lives, survive and reproduce. No special purpose, nothing. We are meaningless compared to the universe, so how does something meaningless obtain meaning? It doesn't. We live, we reproduce, we die.

 

Reproduce? Sure, why not. But the meaning of life is love. At least to us it is (or should be).

 

I don't really agree with many of these answers.
In my opinion, life has no meaning, the search for the meaning of life is just human nature, and really all of the different views you get simplify to the same idea.
The idea that the meaning of life is to 'further the human race and man kind.. etc.' is ridiculous to me. Especially since the industrial revolution, humans have been working so hard for mere conveniences that we may or may not be meant to have. Civility is important, but there was figurative line, and mankind has long since crossed it. Furthering the human race, but to what extent? When are our lives completely perfect and without error?

gain knowledge??? thats bs because its impossible for a human to know everything...no onw really knows why we are here god or who/whatever put us here didnt tell us why, maybe its to reproduce maybe its for knowledge but why are we here ti live and stay alive ifw e no we are going to die....


we are all part of a higher order that we will never understand....it dont judge....it don't punish.....it just is

 

I'm sort of shocked to see people have drawn the same conclusion as I have! Look at animals.. our purpose is to reproduce and keep our genes going. End of story.

But as far as my human purpose (as I don't plan to reproduce any time soon) the purpose of my life will just be the quest to be able to look back someday and be happy with my life.
