To clarify, no, keyloggers can never "install themselves". Simply having the file will not harm you, but put you at a risk should you accidentally run the file at a later time. All viruses and keyloggers require something to start them, usually done so through an exploit, just downloading them will not infect you straight away.

yea this happened to me bout a month ago, I ran loads of virus scans and nothing was picking them up, then i heard about Ad-aware went got it scanned at it found like 4 different kinds of keyloggers and a couple dataminers so if i were you i would go download it. www.lavasoft.com(there is a pro version and free version, i would torrent the pro because it scans alot more then the free) hope this helps.
