Buy a porsche 911 turbo, keep like 50k under my matress, put the rest in mutual funds and watch it grow to millions with hopefully a minimum of a 5% principal

edit: actually, I would probably keep another 50k and acquire a cocaine problem for as long as I could put 50k up my nose

 

I would use 500k to start up my own business, and the other 500k in savings

 

I'd probably spend £100,000 on family and friends, I love the though of being able to spoil my girlfriend and a couple of family members. I'd spend about £250,000 straight away on whatever I want, most probably a new car. The rest into savings as I'll be needing it in drips and drabs.

 

I would spend a chunk on a home, a new european sports car, and spend the rest as I finish college.

Why would I donate to society when it has done nothing for me?

 

I would buy myself a nice house, not anything overly extravagant, give some money to my parents so they could support themselves, and hand some to a charity of my choice.

 

Pay about $500,000 in taxes and put the remainder in low-expense index funds.

$1,000,000 isn't an amount to change your life permanently. Unless used correctly.

It's easy to sit here and say yeah I'd give my mam £100,000 and sister the same, then donate 50% to charity blah blah blah. If you had a real concept of money you wouldn't do that.

Let's just say my intention would be to quit my full time job. I make approx £60,000 a year with a severe amount of overtime.

$1,000,000 is about £610,000 atm, so that's 10 years salary for me. How can I retire on that? I can't..

So I could either make life easier and buy a decent house for around £150,000 then buy another 2-3 houses for about £80,000 each and rent them out for an approximate £1,500 pcm - agency fees.

Which now leaves me with £220,000 that I could buy a nice car with for around £40,000 and leave the rest either invested or just sat waiting for a rainy day..

I couldn't retire, and would still have to work. But wouldn't have to put as much overtime in, which would be nice.

Or you could start a business with your £600,000 and try to make that your full-time job, then at least you're the boss .

 

Would invest it

 

Id buy the house ive always wanted, a few classy american cars (dodge chargers, mustangs), save some money for a rainy day, travel the world and invest the rest. Real e-state is a good place to invest it in.

A million dollars is really not a lot of money.

id spend 300k on a house, 50k on a nice car. The rest would be split into saving and investments i guess.

I'd take my full 1 million and buy a house.
Then I would go back and finish my post secondary education.

 

I'd probably pay off my mums mortgage, pay my brother through Uni, buy a cool apartment for myself and invest the rest. Boring to most I bet ^_^

A million is not really a lot!? What world do you live in!

 

One where anyone can make a million dollars with a decent job and investing. It isn't enough to make you outrageously wealthy or anything. Enough to buy a pretty nice house and a car and pay a few bills, but that's about it. Homes around my area start at that and they aren't that huge.

 

I'd keep 800-900k and give 100k to family.
But with my money id treat friends and family to great adventures.

 

People go to collage pay $40,000 in fee's to get a $100,000/year job if they're lucky in 14 years they'll have made $960,000 before taxes... in 14 years...

 

I'd probably keep it all. I'd treat my friends and family and help them if they really needed it but $1,000,000 is barely anything these days. In the end i'm still going to have to work for a living even with that amount so unless i'm able to retire, i'm probably not giving much away.

 

If you're investing it'll be even faster. They're essentially spending the million over a period of 14 years with a forward on the money. That's why I'm saying it isn't a huge amount. Its definitely a good chunk of money, but having a million doesn't make you rich by a long shot. It'd be difficult to live the rest of your life on it if you want a upper middle class standard of living.
