This sums it up perfectly. It weeded out most of the "for fun" players. The confusing and unbalanced combat system killed PvP, and the microtransactions/constant exp rate increases continue to devalue progress already put into your account. Now the only people who are playing are maxed, and to entertain them, they have to repetitively and rapidly release end-game content and exp/power creeps.
It sucks too, because now they are implementing a TON of changes/ideas that have been suggested so many times throughout the golden years of RS that were never implemented (such as deadman mode), but they are far too late, as the game quality has declined too much, especially considering the premium gaming experiences that are delivered by companies who aren't on the bottom tier of gaming success like Jagex. Once Paul and Andrew left, the quality of updates immediately plummeted. In fact, the last two updates Paul worked on was the flask/sandstone update (Great balance, rewards people who DIY and has high incentive to train skills), and ROM (the best quest in the game to date when I played) which put mage as a class on the map with Storm of Armadyl.
