(UK) Is the royal family needed?

Title says it all, discuss.
IMO they aren't needed as the revenue generated by them would probably be the same if we didn't have a royal family, as people only come to see the buildings rather than the royal family themselves.
Also they have too much political power for people who aren't democratically voted and the only reason they have this power is because they were born out of a specific womens womb who happens to be a Queen

Agree with the above really, they arent needed but they serve a purpose and are the traditional background of our culture.

 

No, I hate them to be honest. They live off all our tax money and do nothing.

Take our taxes and do fuck all. All they do is cause shit and when i wake up i dont wanna see that her son is having a baby who cares? There's plenty other people having babies but they dont get to be in the paper! It's aloud of shit imo.

 

I say to keep them as a part of the culture but i disagree on giving them so much importance. The only monarch i truly respect is the queen.

 

Its Englands culture there born into Royalty, symbolizes background and tradition, its not like they rule anything and tbh there worth billions.

 

Don't think they're needed at all. For example the Queen has no input in laws. She's almost powerless. Laws get processed from the house of commons which gets finalised at the house of lords and all the Monarchy(the queen) can do is stamp them. So pretty useless.

The queen has the power to refuse to sign a law. She could also dissolve parliament, those are quite important powers.

 

I know your title reffered to the UK, but in a sense in Australia we are living under the cloud of the royals, and personally as a nation I think that for us to grow into a more independent and larger nation, the royals have gotta go.

 

She can dissolve a parliament yeah, but the last time the monarch refused to sign a law was in 1707, she has no say in laws so to me it makes her pretty limited to power.

 

I have nothing against our royal family, unarguably they generate money from tourism but many would argue otherwise, saying that they serve no other purpose.

Despite them being a massive part of our heritage, they don't do anything. They live off borrowed money, and live in big houses. However, masses of people flock to London to see Buckingham Palace, and we earn so much money from tourism sales that way.

If you remember the royal wedding, that was so widely watched, it was incredible.

 

It's needed for MORALE but not politics.

 

The royal family is not needed but is a great asset to the commonwealth. Tourism is helped massively by their existence.

As to the person saying the queen has no power, lol. Just because she does not use her power does not mean it is not there. Theoretically she has an immense amount of power.

 

How does she have immense power, She is only a figurehead. These days power rests with Parliament and the prime minister.
