Because it's still an element of the thread. If you can't read it and it's there it can be distracting. It may not be distracting for everyone, but I'd imagine I wasn't the only person.

Also, he said he just needed to increase opacity. I probably just used the wrong term, I didn't mean it had to stand out, just be readable.
