    I hit my back

Finding a correct location for this was difficult so I may be wrong, but oh well.

I decided to take a bath about 45 minutes ago to unwind, and when I got up my feet gave out from under me.
My back hit the corner of the tub extremely hard and I could barely make myself move at first.

    Should I worry about this?
I can't talk to my mom about this because this morning she told me, and I quote, "I hate everything about you."
So I'm asking you guys hoping someone will know.

I'm thinking of just getting some good pain killers and waiting for the pain to subside; is that a bad idea?

    Thanks guys
    -W77

    Edit:
It just flared and it was intolerable. I also found out that I only have access to Advil. Sounds like I might just have to "walk it off".

You may of had the wind knocked out of you, hence you couldn't move.

I highly doubt you were paralyzed for a few minutes/seconds.

If it still hurts after 3-7 days, then you should see a doctor. You could have fractured a vertebrae, this happened to me during my sports career. Had to have physical therapy, no physical activity for a few months, had to wear a back brace, very painful experience.

But, your best bet is to take some pain killers if it hurts that bad, wait a few days (you'll be sore in the morning) and if it still hurts, then you have a problem.

Only time can tell in these instances unless you have a doctor feel your back/bones and have you respond if it hurts or not etc.

    Okay thanks flight.

And yeah I think you are right, and I definitely was not paralyzed.

I'll see if I can't snag something from someone to get me through the next couple days.
Maybe I'll get lucky and it will feel better by morning; that would be awesome.

Just stand up and get your arms out in front of you and squat up and down a few times to loosen it up, you will be fine as someone said you no doubt winded yourself.

Not a doctor, but unless you couldn't move then it should be fine, and if you broke a bone [ i have never so i wouldn't know], but my parents tell me if you acutally break something you won't be able to move from the pain. So i think you just bruised it :)

May be a bit late for this advice but you definitely want to ice it ASAP.

In retrospect, there seems to be some important things to keep in mind that can mean the difference between life and death. Primarily, if you notice any of these side effects.

    I hit my back

Sorry I didn't keep this thread more up to date.

To answer the question about how I fell:
I was in the tub and it was slippery.

And an update on my back:
The next two days it hurt quite a bit.
Coincidentally the tops of the chairs in my school lined up exactly with the spot I hit.

However, after that I figured a hot bath might help, so for the next two days I soaked in the tub. (Putting ice on your back isn't that easy unless you lay on your stomach.)
Needless to say the cause of the pain ended up fixing the pain.

Thanks for all of your tips, advice, and concern guys!

Good to hear that you're healing up.

Until you are 100% however you should avoid slouching, etc and try to keep your back straight so it will be able to heal in optimal conditions.

Glad you feel better but you should refrain from exercising or anything that has to do with more than normal physical labor.

    I hit my back

It's possible you fractured a vertebra. This injury may not be immediately detrimental to your health or mobility besides a bit of discomfort, but you should make a point to see a physician so he can check out the damage. It'll be difficult without the aid of your mother, but there's always options when it comes to healthcare.

I would discourage stretching-- in contrast to advice given earlier in the thread-- that would only make it inflamed. I think the best you can do, much like a rolled ankle, is to ice it and try not to move around too much for a day. If you have one of those spinal aligning tools, that could help you feel better faster. If not, just get some lumbar support, put some padding on school chairs like a sweatshirt or something, and obviously avoid strenuous tasks

Thanks for the tips guys; I think I should be fine leaving it be though. (Don't want to go to the docs if it's unneeded, as my last couple of trips were.)

It hasn't bothered me at all recently. I actually forgot about it until I remembered about this thread.
My spine sticks out a bit (I'm a ridiculously bony person) so I know it got hit, but it's not sore at all.

    I hit my back

I had a few like this falling back onto my back playing football, it will kill the morning after, and I had a 7 inch bruise across my cocyx. Especially with things like your back, if you have a break or a fracture you will know immedeatly. It's differant with breaks or fractures around other parts of the body e.g. ankle, but as I said, you'll know if you've fractured /break your back right away.
