Is it a bad thing or is it because we are the dominant species?

People are freaking out because we are cutting down forests to put new houses and taking over habitats.

Is this because we are meant to take over this world?

Personally, I believe we were meant to do this. We are the dominant species, and that's what we do, make room for us and take what we need. What do you guys think?

Lol? We've been chopping down trees since the discovery of fire. This is nothing new.. just keep growing trees and we'll be fine.

I'm going to expand this to a debate about Humanity's impact on the world's resources, because we'd soon get bored discussing trees. So:

Global warming is bullshit. It took billions of years for Earth's climate to form naturally, a bit of excess carbon in the air isn't going to unsettle it. This is another scare fad - I'll even go right out there and say it's potentially a conspiracy - that has already been proven wrong. Nobody listens, of course. If there is any real change in global temperatures at all, it's just a bog-standard periodical climate shift. 500 years ago the world's climate was VERY different, and it will keep changing. That's the way nature works.

However, needless resource usage is illogical. We're never going to run out of coal etc, because the universe is full of asteroids and planets we can mine as humanity expands, but that doesn't mean we should use it just because it's there. I'm very excited about some of the recent alternative-energy concepts, including a supposed 'satellite solar farm' which would harness energy from the sun in space (no ozone layer = more UV bollocks), and then beam it down to earth. Sounds sci-fi but so did many things, and it's just the already-invented Wireless power... much bigger.

~ to answer your actual question: Yes, we should take and use what we need, but not on a suicidal scale.

Finally someone who actually gets it. People are saying the temperature is rising, why yes, yes it is. But it has been for hundreds, even thousands of years since the Ice Age. My personal opinion: We never fully exited the Ice Age, I don't think we have seen how high the temperatures on Earth can really get.

Well at first thought, there's nothing wrong with it. But when you
get into all of the other things we wouldn't be able to survive if we
did that.

YOUR BOTH IDIOTS...

Okay, the first post, you say such a small change in carbon dioxide isnt going to change anything? Lets presume you think a small change is 0.1%.

THATS 0.1% OF THE ENTIRE ATMOSPHERE SURROUNDING THE EARTH. ITS A HUGE CHANGE. The Gases are at a stable position, you don't think us producing more Carbon Dioxide is natural? ofcourse its going to unbalance it, were making more Carbon Dioxide than the earth can convert back to Oxygen, and then were chopping down the trees and plantlife that DO THAT JOB. We're speeding up our own Doom.

The 2nd post is also stupid, Because he implies that we've only ever had 1 Ice age, a degree change is a huge change, especially IN THE TIMESCALE its going up, its not natural.

How is it not natural? If there's been more than one Ice Age, as you implied, then there's also been more than one period of time when the temperature has seemed rather high.

Exactly, so how is Global warming a myth if its happened before?

Also, This time its on a completely different timescale, last time it happened over hundreds of thousands of years.. this time, like 2 decades?

Does that mean it's caused by us? No. That means it MAY be us, or it may just be another spike as there has been in the past.

'Global Warming' is not understood as the gradual warming of the environment anymore. If you ask someone what Global Warming is, odds are they will say something along the lines of "The warming of the environment because of the Greenhouse Effect."

Yes, the environment is warming, but it is natural.

Yes, the environment is warming, but it is natural.

Its not occurring naturally though, its sped up.

Accurate climate records don't exist for long enough to know if or not changes in temperatures are being 'sped up', or if this speed is standard. We simply do not know, and this whole idea of man-made climate change has came about because there is no evidence to the contrary. Frankly, I'd like to see if the earth is warming at all. Remember the snow last winter, in the UK especially? The entire island of Great Britain when viewed from space was WHITE.

Regardless, have there been any experiments conducted to see whether we are causing it or are they just assuming?

@Ozaki that is also true. I don't think it's right that if we aren't SURE that it's because of us they need to make everyone panic by telling them if we don't stop we will tear the Ozone layer apart and we will all burn to death.

But seriously, personally I'm of the opinion that Global Warming is certainly real. If you look through all the information and research that has been done over the years, you cannot deny that the rate of temperature increase has been rising over recent years. If I get the time, I'll edit this and link to a couple of news articles I was reading the other day, but simply from a few supporting pieces of evidence (measurements taken from locations around the world, specifically near the poles), this is clear. If you find the graphed evidence, not just the tables of recordings, it's far easier to see.

Just a graph taken from google:

Global Warming is a conspiracy, yo.
The Government have been fiddling with our thermometers, to make it look like the temperatures are rising, but they actually aren't.

The truth is, the US government spent billions on development of Hybrid cars, expecting them to be popular, but they weren't. To boost sales, they invented Global Warming, and spread it around with the help of some bribed celebrities. Now they're spreading more rumours of it, and have spent large amounts of money fixing the worlds thermometers, so as to make it look like temperatures are rising.

They're just in it to make money, brah, don't be fooled.

Oh crap... Now this has started.

No-one would bother faking evidence on such a page.. + it gets fixed straight away.

And they are taking samples of deep ice from the Antarctica which bare markings which can be measured. it shows a rapid increasement of these markings the past couple of years.

May I ask what ice that is deep down show?

Global climate change, not that silly "global warming" Al Gore paraded around with, is happening. We are speeding up the process of it though.

Global warming is real trust me kid. Watch a film called The Inconvenient Truth. Even so if what you are saying you are still in wrong. You say an ice age has happened before? Yeah we all know that and lets say we do go into another ice age then we can't survive in another ice age so we're dead that way. Secondly if the temperature rises we will eventually be in a state where its too hot to live, if you don't think that's possible then there is proof already which is the Valley of Kings in Egypt. It's too hot to stay out there for 2 hours due to extreme dehydration never mind living in it.

Two parts to this. One, don't call me 'kid' when you have a cartoon marijuana leaf as your avatar and a woman covering her breasts in your sig.

Two, why would we go into another Ice Age while the temperature is going up? I know the temperature is going up, but where I stand is that it is NATURAL.
