For a average computer user 4GB is more then enough adding more RAM would not make a difference in speed not even when you use 64-bit version of Vista. This is because your PC only uses the RAM needed and knowing that most computer users wont use that much memory it is a total waste of money.

Its a different story for Advanced users or for Server.

wow... do you not understand what I'm trying to say? 4gb is definitely enough for the average user, however, I didn't recommend him buy 4gb, I merely said that was the maximum for the 32-bit version of Windows. He only has 768MB of RAM which isn't really enough for average use now (and definitely not for Vista as the minimum requirements state that it need at least 1GB).
