How to sniff out a scammer?

How to sniff out a scammer?

Have scammers evolved so much over the years that they have grown to become natural pros of manipulation?

    What are your thoughts?

Should sythe start implementing a system like the show how to catch a predator, where they stage situations to perm ban/ip ban a scammer?

    What do you think?

How to sniff out a scammer?

'I won't go first, don't care how many vouches you have, nor will I use a middleman - DONT WASTE MY TIME'

That's a pretty good place to start sniffing :p

How to sniff out a scammer?

They are the ones who post 40 times a day just to get their post count up. I am not accusing you of anything but it seems fishy that you just one day decide to come back and start posting, during the past 12 hours youve had over 31 posts, ive seen your spam all over the forums

How to sniff out a scammer?

For me, it's deals that seem too good to be true, people refusing OMM's, people who joined this month and refuse to go first to trusted users, ect.. After being here awhile you just learn the scams.

How to sniff out a scammer?

I'm a broker which requires me to be at my desk 8 hours during the work day. Go look at my posts the greater majority of them are all before 3pm central usa time... the time when i get off.

Plus if you look at the quality of the posts... i'm not babbling the greater majority of it is helping people or asking valid questions. Sythe is a forum.... Since when is being active on a forum an indication of being a scammer lol.

How to sniff out a scammer?

As others have said, you get pretty good at recognizing scammers after a while. High post count in a short period of time, making a donation to the site almost immediately after joining, building up vouches through small trades/purchases, etc. Basically anything to make them seem trusted so that they could convince a naive user to go first to them.

People pay attention to daily post count because there have been several significant scams in the past from users (TJOC) who build their post count into the thousands as quickly as they can, then convince some newcomer to go first to them.

How to sniff out a scammer?

I am not on sythe trying to sell anything. I've had multiple bad experiences on this site.

I became active on this site because i wanted to purchase an acc. I finally had a successful trade and i am trying to become apart of the community.

    Thanks for the comment though!

How to sniff out a scammer?

You get used to the tricks after a while. If you use an MM, request good confirmation pms, and avoid suspicious things, you'll be fine. Also google "theirSkypeName sythe" and see if they come up banned on another account. Anyone who mentions their number of vouches unless directly asked is probably up to no good. I'm live:supersythe on Skype if you have questions.

How to sniff out a scammer?

Although someone might scam you that way, people who are repeat scammers more often use more cunning methods. A lot of scams are similar to popular lures. The lurer doesn't outright say "Hey, I'm having a drop party, follow me to the Wilderness!". People are gullible in general, but in order to be successful, the scammers have to convince the other users that the victim thinks they are in control.

So in a lure, the lurer's partner PM's their victim "Hey, this guy tried to lure me earlier but I outsmarted him and telegrabbed the shit he got, I got an ags lol!". Now the victim thinks they are the one in control. In a scam, this would be things like the scammer offering to go first using paypal, or use a middleman (obvious scams in this situation being a paypal chargeback, or using an imposter middleman).

How to sniff out a scammer?

The way I size my clients up and observe the way they speak is the way I determine if I want to conduct business with them. For example, someone with really broken English. ''Yes I do can buy fire cape but first you muyst look at this picture of gear ok? (sends a phish)'' Another giveaway for me is that a lot of the time, they tend to type like 1-5 words per sentence. Like they type it really fast, like some retarded kid is typing or something. Yet another thing that rings bells is when they demand I go first or to get a trusted middleman they know. This is weird when they have like 3 post count and 2014 join date, and I have a hundred something vouches. At this point, I pretty much tell them to blow like the wind.

How to sniff out a scammer?

Pretty much anyone who has a recent join date/low post count that acts like they run the joint, if they start demanding things from you, better get your scammer detectors on.
