How To Keep A Clean Desktop
Made by XxFallenSoulxX
NOTE: This is my first ever user submitted guide and I would appreciate it if you people gave me constructive criticism. I would like to make this guide the best it can be to my viewers.Made by XxFallenSoulxX
My guide will explain how to make a cluttered desktop in which you can't find what your looking for into a clean and organized desktop where finding things is so easy you won’t have to use the search button anymore. A clean desktop usually consists of at least 1-2 columns of icons, nothing more. This guide will also explain tips along the way as to why this is a good idea.
Your Desktop
This is what your desktop probably looks like (this is not my pic, I got it off of Google images because i don’t have a cluttered desktop to take a pic of
Now let's analyze this picture...the first column:the last three icons (Daemon tools, Google Earth, and DivX player) should go into an applications folder. the rest on that column are important files and should be kept on the first line of your desktop. The second column, every single icon besides the last two should go into applications also. the second to last one is considered a set up file even though it is a installer. All of the third column should go into Applications as well except Microsoft words, as the other ones are programs not as important but WORD is a useful program and should be kept in the first line. The rest is pretty much the same because all the files are Apps but you can further divide them into similar programs such as Adobe only programs, Instant messengers, etc.
First of all look at your desktop and think to yourself what types of files/icons you have (applications, games, set-up files, pictures, etc). Now after you have done this create the following folders on your desktop: “Applications”, “Set-Up Files”, and “Games”.
Here is what it should look like: (NOTE: Your icons can be whatever you feel them needed to be, mines are these as they are better suited for me, for example purposes. A great thing about icons is it’s different from the default folder look so you don’t accidentally delete it).
Alright now comes the fun part you will sort your cluttered desktop into three icons and leave out what ever doesn’t go into them. (I will explain this later on). A great thing about set-up folders is if you ever download a torrent, instead of deleting the set-up file when your done, keep it in a folder, it will suck if you delete the program and have to download it again. Create shortcuts of your Apps and Games and sort them out, quick access rather then the “All Programs” list.
Your Documents
Now your desktop is becoming a little bit cleaner and people can actually see the background….Alright so go into your Documents now you might see another cluttered mess, if not, then it will be in the upcoming weeks when you got nothing better to do. If you don’t have so already, create these folders (keep default icon if you like there, not that important since they are already in a main folder): “School Documents”, “Home Documents”, “Important Documents”, “Pictures” (yes you might already have a pictures folder but create specific ones within it such as “school pics, vacation pics, Misc. pics, etc.”
These are just some of the examples of what I have; I have more but look at these to give you an idea.
Now sort what ever you have in your Docs and desktop into these creating more folders if you want along the way.
The end result should be this for your desktop only, your Docs will always be messy no matter what but at least it helped you cut down on your searching time.
I hope you enjoyed reading my guide as this is it for now, please give feedback! It was my first guide and I would love to make more.
