How to create a website!

Alright, hopefully this might teach you how to create your very own website! Also click here for domain name coupons. and such.

Step 1: Getting a domain.

Alright, first step is to hopefully get a domain. Try going to www.godaddy.com, as they have cheap domains, there are many other websites with domains for sale too, but I just got mine from godaddy. Now there are many different coupons for godaddy, I'll just give you a few of them.

Also I'd suggest going with a .info name, as they're about 18 dollars cheaper.

Step 2: Finding a host!

Now a host is the most important thing you will need. It basically gives you access to your site. Now there are plenty of different hosting options. I would suggest getting a shared host as they are the cheapest. Now I have my site hosted by hostgator.com, as they have great prices. You could also get hosting at godaddy, siteground, 1and1, and many others. Hostgator has some coupons, so I'll post some of them.

Step 3: Setting up your site!

Alright, if your hosting and where you got your domain are the same company you won't have to worry about this.

Alright, we'll have to transfer our domains hostname! Sounds fun, well it isn't. Alright if your domain was registered at godaddy, follow the steps.






Step 4: Finding some forums!

Alright, next up we will decide what forum script we want to use. I'll give you a list of some, and there upsides.

phpbb: site: www.phpbb.com

Widely used, and great support, simple to use.

SMF: site: www.simplemachines.org

Again, widely used, very user friendly

MercuryBoard: site: www.mercuryBoard.com

Very quick, and user friendly

mybb: site: www.mybboard.net

Easy to use, not sure what else, never used it before.

There are many more, these are just some major ones.

Step 5: Uploading and installing your forums!

Alright, you will now need to upload your forums to your website.
I suggest using smartftp which can be found here: www.smartftp.com
Alright, now that it's all set up, we can begin. After you download the forum script you choose, rename the folder to "forums" also, upload it to public_html.




After it's uploaded make a new database by going to www.yoursite.com/cpanel, go to sqldatabases, and enter the database name, and your username and pass.

After that's finished uploading, go to www.yoursite.com/forums/install/install.php

Then enter the information when prompted.

Finally, go to www.yoursite.com/cpanel, and go to file manager, then click public_html, then forums, then delete the install folder.

I still don't get what you elabroated on this guide MCR ftw. Can you like help me out here? How to upload forums? My mind is blank when I read about it. Help me please.

 

Ok, well after you download the forums that you chose you'll want to re-name the folder to forums. Then open up smart ftp, and right click on public_html, and click "upload folder" and select the file named forums.
