How To Buy A Computer

I am going to teach you how to buy a computer that will met your needs and not get ripped off doing it. I will go through each component of the computer and show you what it is worth. Some people think that building your own computer will save you money, but most of the time this isn't the case because computer companies.

(If you haven't done so already read
"Basic Computer Guide")

RAM
What often gets people into buying a computer is RAM. The amount of RAM in the computer you want to buy is somewhat insignificant computers with XP will use only about 1-2GB of RAM and Vista computer will use about 2-3GB of RAM. RAM is cheap about $25 for 1GB and its easily upgradeable, consider going with a cheaper computer then upgrading RAM.

Hard Drive
The hard drive space may be also insignificant. Most hard drives sold today are about 250GB. It is really uncommon for someone to use more than 50GB of space, and having a home computer use up 250GB is extremely rare. But if your a person who has 100 movies and 10,000 songs on your computer its not a big deal to add a hard drive, you can keep your old one and you new one.

Power Supply
The power supply isn't that big of a deal. The computer manufacturer make sure you have enough power for the computer. But If you plan on adding more components to your computer (hard drive, graphics card) you may want to upgrade your power supply.

Case
When shopping for a computer please don't be the person that looks at the case and thinks "LIKE OMG DAT CAS IS SO FTW LETS ME BUY IT CAUSE IT DA COMP MUST BE GOOOD!!!!!11". Look at the computer specs first and then factor in how much you think the case is worth to you.

Ok before you stop reading and call me a noob lets go onto the things you should look for when buying a PC.

CPU
The CPU is the first thing you should look at when buying a PC and it just happens to be the thing the least amount of people know about. The CPU is the most important because the faster your CPU is the faster your computer will run. This is also the most expensive part of the computer and the least likely for it to be upgradeable. You may have heard the terms dual core and quad core, this means that there are 2 CPUs (dual) or 4 CPUs (quad) in one CPU. So a 3.0GHz CPU is equal to a 1.5GHz dual core CPU. Other than the GHz rating you should also look at the L1 and L2 cache having a higher amount will increase speed.

Motherboard
The FSB is a very important speed, make sure you sure the computer has at least a 800MHz FSB. If you plan on buying a graphics card you want to make sure that your motherboard has the card slot for it.

If you need any more help buying a computer feel free to post.

Thats a good idea but its hard because computers change so quickly it would be hard to maintain a good deals on computer.

I don't really like it. It's not really a guide. You just posted a little information on each thing then told us to read a computer guide.
Thanks for the input. I try to keep the information as short as possible so the reader won't become bored but I think it covers the topic well enough. Do you think I should add something?
