How long until RS is a downloadable game?

With the latest set of updates, RS has started to lag insanely bad.

I sometimes wonder if it is to prevent botting - Causing misclicks etc.

But it's a slim call. There's so much content now, with the 3D graphics introduced - The game is insanely slow to a STANDARD computer (1GB RAM, 125MB G card etc).

There are 5-10 second lag spikes when you rotate the map. A multi-million pound company should be able to counter-act this. SURELY?

I personally feel it's only a matter of time before RS is a download game. By download I mean like WOW. 20GB download. And tbh, I don't know if it will make or break RS.

I personally HATE full-screen games. I love the ability to be able to choose a song, message irl friends on fb/msn etc whilst playing - And this would probably end my RS time completely.

What are your thoughts??

 

I don't think it will be a download-able game so quick..
RuneScape is so popular because its a Browser Game that is F2P.

 

I used to get severe lag for RuneScape too, and it was unplayable on the mac. However, the downloadable client solved all my lag problems and allowed me to play on the mac, so imo it will not be a "download" game for a while.

 

I think the client is as close to downloadable as the Game will get for the next few years.

I imagine Jagex would probably lose many users if they turned the game into a fully downloadable game. And probably the number of registering users each day would probably lower. Because what set Jagex apart from many other MMORPGs is the fact that it can be run in the browser, and it doesn't require a several GB file download.

Eventually Jagex may come up with solutions to make their game more standard-computer-friendly, but I doubt it will be any time soon.

 

Runescape will never be downloadable.

 

You never know... Runescape is becoming WOWscape. Wow has dungeons so Runescape decides to copy

 

Jagex is full of many surprises, what ever they think will make them the most money they'll do. If they think making Runescape fully downloadable will make the more money they'll do it.

 

use minimum graphic setting and safe mode/software. you get much better fps.

Myself and many others alike have gotten it and on GOOD computers so it's not just the people with standard

 

don't see it ever happening jagex would have to change the game completely and then purchase a hack shield or you could edit your own stats.

 

idk i feel like jagex maybe coming out with it soon because it would save them money on server costs would it not? since they are updating so much stuff and making stuff so fancy if alot of the people who play on fancy used their own thing it would impact servers less? idk but jagex is making big changes soon and coming out with new stuff all the time so we will see

 

If to many people end up quitting

e.g. 20k people on at a time, then i think they will have to make it downloadable

 

probs never and i dont ever suffer with lag maybe its ur pc or internet or the woirld you play on

 

I like runescape for what its like. I would probably quit if they made it a downloadable client. they havent even fixed the damn fps issues.

Well yes it still is a browser game but there is a downloadable component to the game these days anyway... It will slowly head that direction, yes.

 

I think the whole downloadable side of things is more appealing to a lot of people. From kids to severe gamers they want to see the best (graphics) content etc.

I hope it doesn't become downloadable but it's only a matter of time IMO

 

You should try the downloadable client, it stops or rather gets rid off 50 percent of the lag. (personal experience).

I have a pretty nice Advent x64 PC which has a massive 1TB memory yet it can still lag time after time, Jagex should surely look into this.

 

It already is, to an extent.
I don't think it's going to go completely download though.

 

A fully downloadable game as an option could help users run the game at max settings with no lag etc. whilst still being avaliable to be played on a browser.

 

Making RS a downloadable game would be a HUGE change to the game, because part of its insane popularity is the fact that its a FREE browser game that can be acessed by basically any computer with an internet connection.

However, I do have to agree that with the constant graphical updates from Jagex + all the new content, the game is becoming increasingly laggy for everybody. I bought a brand new computer a few months ago so that I could play RS in high detail with as little lag as possible, and that only lasted a few months before the lag got bad just like it was before... so I would not rule out the possibility of RS becoming a downloadable game in the future.
