Make your minds up about off-site activity

So, one of my guilty pleasures is browsing through the report a scammer forum to read through the drama. I've noticed that today a couple of people are receiving bans/dnt's for events that happen off site.

This got me thinking... Why are Sythe users are being penalised for discrepancies on completely separate sites? I mean sure, noone likes a scammer and they shouldn't be welcomed on Sythe by any means but if they've not actually broken any Sythe rules then why are bans implemented?

If we're going to penalise users for their activity offsite, we should be able to use the reputation we've accumulated offsite too.

 

• Malicious Off-site Activities: If you are found to have committed offences elsewhere (as in, on other sites) which would constitute a ban here on Sythe had they been committed here, we may use these offences as an indicator of your character and choose to ban you from Sythe. Offences committed prior to your Sythe membership may also be considered depending on the nature of the offence.

 

Personally I like the security of knowing that if anyone from PB/PA use Sythe and scam on either website, Sythe will take action on here too. No hiding!

 

Okay fair enough, but that still doesn't account for the fact that we can't use vouches from those same sites where our bans do apply. It's just a bit hypocritical IMO. I don't even have offsite vouches (unless we're talking any site, because I was the owner of an extremely successful Habbo Retro which would net 4 figures weekly) but the concept behind it is just a bit silly.

 

I agree completely, it's more the logic dispute that I have the issue with.

"We'll ban you if you're banned on those sites because it shows your character, though your 200 vouches from that same site mean nothing here, even though that also shows character"

 

I'm pretty sure i've seen users link and quote their off-site feedback in their threads.

 

Yeah, this is still allowed afaik. I guess we could make it clearer, but this doesn't seem like a lopsided rule in the way you're suggesting.

 

That's entirely different.

Gfx vouches are not honored on sythe but may be honored on other websites, how are we supposed to properly vet that?

In addition, people could just make a tiny marketplace website with fake accounts and vouches, then claim them all on sythe.

 

Looking at this post from last year regarding a similar topic, @Shin stated that it's not allowed.

I understand that, but my point is that if you're able to be banned for something on another site and get banned on here, then you should be able to use vouches from those sites on the flip side.

 

I'm pretty sure most users are capable of dynamically risk-assesing any off-site vouches people post on their threads.

I.e 'I know of, but don't know the mechanics of a Habbo Retro, therefor I can't accept that as a vouch for my sale. I do however know the mechanics of powerbot, so, I'm happy to accept your PB vouches in conjunction with your Sythe vouches to complete our sale.'

 

I think there's nuance as to what an "allowed" vouch is. You can't claim "I have 100 vouches" on Sythe if 90 of those come from somewhere else, but I'm pretty sure you can link your vouch thread from another site in your posts if you feel the need.

 

You're missing the point here. I'm not trying to request that my habbo retro endeavour is recognised, I was referring to sites like Powerbot & OSBot. You can get banned on those sites and your ban will also apply here, but a legitimate player with hundreds of feedback on PB/OSB etc. is technically not credible on here.

Using my retro for vouches would be ridiculous because I'd be within the top 3 vouched users on here within the space of a month if that did hold weight. There would be periods where I'd release new items for sale, and have to handle over 100 trades a day consistently for about 10 days whilst the hype was still there.

 

Largely this rule is just a business decision. We want to promote and encouraging trading here, not on other sites. It's also an extra burden for our staff and kinda silly to have them verifying people's offsite vouch threads or whatever feedback system etc. Simpler to just not have any of that honored here
