I used to type with only using my right hand for one key presses and used my left hand for multiple key presses.. I'm not sure whether it's because my left hand is more used to WASD from gaming and my right hand has just picked up a terrible habit that I cannot shake.. I'm now trying to adopt a much better method, that is used all 10 fingers to type quicker. My current method leads me to make plenty of mistakes but I average around 70-80 WPM on typing games, where'as now I'm trying this new method I'm lucky to be hitting 30wpm..

Just curious as to how others type and whether or not they're in the same situation as me?

Also interested in what keyboard you use?

I actually found this thread kind of interesting. I've never formally taken a typing class and my typing evolved from "pecking" with just two fingers when I was young. Now I use three fingers on my left hand and a single finger(or in rare cases 2) fingers on my right hand. This would probably seen as an unusual method but its what I'm used to and I'm able to type upwards of 120 words per minute as well as look in another direction and type out entire paragraphs without making many mistakes.

At this point my typing is effective enough that I don't see a point in re-wiring my brain to type "correctly"

I have a feeling that we're in the same boat. When I get home to my actual keyboard(on a chromebook right now) I'll take your typing test and report my score.

I too type exactly like this, just nowhere near the speeds you're achieving. I do a lot of programming also, and when trying to adapt to a 10 finger typing strategy it becomes a whole lot more difficult to do it.. But thanks for taking an interest. I was pretty confident someone would be on the same page as me.

I type with both hands but using 3 fingers on the left and two on the right. I don't like typing tests like those because I feel the need to rush - if I have what I'm typing in my head I make less errors. I think I average around 85wpm. Don't really feel the need to type particularly fast.

I see what you're saying, when typing from my brain it's a lot easier than trying to copy something in front of you. But, it's probably the only practical way of testing typing speeds. "I think" But I do tend to make a whole lot of mistakes when I'm doing it. Especially mixing up periods and commas haha..

I do about three fingers on both hands. Just came naturally to me. Also I use my pinky on the right hand for the shift key when necessary.

I almost always use left shift for capitals/special character.. Seems like it would take me about a year to adapt to use right-shift haha.

I'm right around 70WPM and I use two hands. I see no reason to type super quickly though.
