Lately the most comforting thing to me is just silence. I'm not really sure what that means, but silence kinda makes everything just go away. I don't necessarily think about much and don't have much emotion, just how I've always been. Not really sure what is going on?
I'm the exact same way. I really don't know how to explain it, but being by myself on here really just clears my mind of all bad thoughts, or thoughts in general for that matter. I don't know how to explain it (maybe introvert), but it's just how I've always been, and it allows me to escape my problems in the real world. I don't think there's a problem with you at all. You resemble me in a way, and everyone copes with things differently in life, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Do you recall what exactly brought you to this phase? You said "lately", so necessarily, there has to be some kind of event or stage that happened in your life. Enjoying silence isn't really a problem. If you think of it, silence is a form of therapy in its own way. It gives you a peace of mind, which allow you to think clearly without any disruptions. I like to compare silence with space. You're free to do whatever you want because you're on your own. You don't have to worry about all the little things life contains, you just enjoy the present moment, which I think too many people forget to do. Nevertheless, you have to be careful and not transpose this comfort into your everyday life. Today's world is too much centered around communication that you have to be able to express yourself even though you prefer silence over noise. But I'm also like both of you and I think silence is one of the sweetest voices one can hear.
I do not mean to sounds nasty or anything of the sort. But it sounds like you are getting depressed its one of the first stages of becoming depressed" isolation" And Anixty Go speak with doctor mate they will be able to tell you whats going on
To be honest I don't believe in depression , anxiety or any type of mental illness other then dementia and Alzheimer's. I grew up in a hectic loud house and dealt with it for 22 years , so I think that may be a factor
It could be, just quick question do you believe in panic attacks or anything like that? have you ever spoken to any one who gone to war who suffers for ptsd? I honestly can not get my head round saying you don't believe in it? Like saying you don't believe in down syndrome etc?
No no, Down syndrome and others are illnesses proven by a legitimate physical defect. Such as missing or having an extra chromosome. Anything that can be proven physically wrong with a person I see as valid. I do not believe in adhd, panic attacks, depression, anxiety, etc. I believe these are just a state of mind that someone has complete control over.
But its proven that most mental illness is a chemical in balance in the brain, yet because you cant see if you do not believe it? Would that not like be saying happyness sad anger etc are not real too? Dont mean come across as a ass or anything just general interested in how you think and come to theses conclusions
No i understand where you are coming from. I just don't believe in the chemical imbalance. How does that chemical imbalance happen? We are all happy while we are young, I believe that a certain mindset triggers that chemical imbalance. Which is why i say we are in control of it. Which is why i don't believe in it. If that makes any sense?
Yea but if you get a car all brand new, and keep bumping the bumpers would the car be damaged? i do understand where your coming from, Wish i knew the technical answer but i do not, drugs alter the balance etc If im honest i believe it is the anti depressants and pills doctors pump out. Like for example pregnant mother is depressed - doctor give her pills to change chemical balance in her brain to make her feel better - i.e no longer producing the chemical anymore which ever one it may be - and passed down to baby as baby brain wont produce it as well because it thinks its not needed because mother wasn't producing it. Im not saying they decided to say hey im not gonna produce this any more all im saying is your like carbon copy dna wise of your parents and if that dna is altered so will your off spring. And as people have more kids etc passing down the defected dna making every one worse
Mental illnesses can be caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain, which have been studied and cited meticulously throughout medical history. Unless you've done extensive independent research; I would be careful being so blasé over mental illness in a space like this one. Having the attitude of 'just change your attitude and it'll go away' can be very harmful to someone struggling with depression or another disorder. Just bear that in mind please and be respectful and curious rather than invalidating and condescending of a complex issue. Back on topic; There's nothing wrong with enjoying silence, man. As you say, if you had a hectic early life it's only natural that quiet and calm bring you solace. Your emotionlessness on the other hand could just mean growing up in a hectic environment there wasn't really much space for exploring your emotions. I would be interested to know if you tapped in to your inner self and your feelings what would happen. Edit: A resource you may find insightful: the quiet place
Silence is good, either spending time on your own or with family helps me become a more positive me Time with friends = bad decisions so I look to better myself on my own either being silent or with music
