How do I know if someone is trustworthy?

Hi, I'm new here, and I was wondering howto make sure the person I'm dealing with is trustworthy. I know there's a vouches system, but I don't seem to understand it. Could anyone please explain it to me?

I would highly encourage you to read the following guides/tips. Most of your questions and concerns will be answered by these:

1.) ALWAYS request a sythe PM before a trade, make sure the PM includes both your Discord Name and UIDs as shown here: Discord PM Template. Example of a correct PM: https://i.imgur.com/aRITtNd.png

3.) Learn how to stay safe from Discord scams: How to Identify & Avoid Being Scammed on Discord [Guide]
4.) If you're still unsure how trustworthy someone is, you can use a middleman from here: MiddleMan Forums (make sure to still request a PM as mentioned above, because many fake impostor MMs exist).

As for vouches themselves, people generally create a thread for themselves here: Vouches Forum. After a successful trade with someone, vouches can be left on that thread. You can go through a few people's threads in that section to get an idea for yourself. Vouches where the other party went first (meaning you were put in a position of trust) are obviously more potent than going first to others.

 

It depends in what field you are looking.

Accounts: Check the Report a Scammer archives and search their name. If you find any scam reports regarding recoveries, you have your answer.

Gold: Use a trusted middleman. You can check their vouches for the amount of times and value that he was trusted with. These are the vouches where people include "I went first". Some people don't even mention that, but you can't base yourself off of those vouches because there is a possibility they weren't put in a position of trust.
There are many trusted gold sellers as well so you won't need a middleman. The biggest problem here is impersonators but if you follow my last point you should be set here.

Services: Check their vouches AND the report a scammer archives. Search their name, if you find anything related to bad trading practices or bad service reviews, move on to the next.

Many people have a lot of vouches, but many of them also have low quality vouches. I would not hold those into account (account rentals, fire capes, etc).

Also read the threads posted by Gladiator above. ALWAYS, always always always request a PM from the person you are dealing with and have them include their UNIQUE DISCORD ID.

Compare it to the discord you are talking to and you should be golden.

It's usually a red flag if someone refuses to split a trade into smaller increments, especially for a service of longer duration.
Most trustworthy people will be willing to split large trades into smaller increments. Yes, it is admittedly annoying when someone wants to do a trade in 10m increments even though I've done many transactions where I was trusted with hundreds of dollars, but I can still empathize with their position; everyone was a noob at one point.

You never know with 100% certainty that the person you're doing business with will go smooth. Always be careful and protect yourself by searching up the person you're trading with, their profile / vouches/ activity on the site and make a judgement call.

Vouches are more or less reviews one member leaves in regards to their dealings with another member. Just be careful, just because someone has a lot of vouches doesn't make them trustworthy, so go through the vouches yourself and see how much validity they hold.

Keep an eye out on the report a scammer section/ search archives of banned members or accounts you should steer clear of. Any other questions feel free to ask or PM me.

 

You can also use the “IP audit” tool under the profile page to look at the accounts their IP address is associated with. Although it’s not definitive, it can give you an idea of the same people posting from an IP address, potentially saving you from a future problem

 

Generally join date, donation status and vouches but always ask to use a middleman.

When it comes to the graphics section, always look at the feedback left on the thread in question. And of course, look at how many orders the person has completed etc.

On a serious note... I look at the age of the account. When i see a 2014 user with $100+ donated, I feel okay...

When i see a 2019 user with $200 donation... I feel a lot less safe.

I would also take into account things like vouches.... I don't go first with anyone who has under 12 pages of vouches. Why not just use a MM? Don't listen to anyones bullshit excuses. Everybody should be alright with using a MM (middleman).

From my personal prospective there are many trusted people out there but more non.

If you value your spot on a website you will show people you can be trusted, for me as I say I don’t go first to anyone typically unless I’m in a rush and go to a gold site, and that means nobody. My vouches? Yeah all pretty much 99% of users going first, these users are of typically higher donations than me etc. Does a donation rank mean anything? Not really, I could be equally as trusted without the $200 donor but I wanted to show my support to a website I like to use.

Now basing myself from a service only user, I have 2.1-2.3k feedback/vouches which I’m proud to say after 7 years in the market I’m doing fine.

 

Trust is a difficult situation to discuss, it's even harder to trust someone over the internet because they could say literally anything you want to here. @ChinaNumbaWon said people that have been around for say 2 months and go donate $100-200 that's just for them to look worthy cause in their eyes if they can get even $300-400 back they don't care.

A middle man with a lot of vouches is always a safe bet with trades or even someone with like been mentioned 10+ pages of vouches. I personally don't have that yet but I've done my best to try and provide a safe transaction on every single trade i've done.

 

This thread is turning into a bunch of people advocating for themselves. You should honestly take @Gladiator's response and run with it.
