House Numbers

House1 = 1337 Fake Street
House2 = 1341 Fake Street
House3 = 1345 Fake Street

Do you ever wonder by house numbers typically go by Four's?
Why not just make the numbers go by One's?

May there be an answer to this problem, and/or why was it first implemented?

they do go in order at least in the us on each road side the right may have 110-160 and the other side would be 160-200 or something like that. they don't just give houses random address's

 

That's not how it is where I live, one side is all odd numbers and the other side is all even numbers.
Where did you see numbers go by 4:O

 

depending where you live, my town, some streets the house go up by 2, 4, or 6. but the town next to me it can go up 6 10 12 not always 4

 

I've always seen odd on one side, even on the other.

2,4,6, etc.
1,3,5, etc.

 

They do it so if they were ever to build houses between them they would have numbers for them. It is different for wherever you live though.

 

In Australia, some addresses are assigned based on how far along the road a house is. If there's a long road with only a few houses, a house that's 2.6km along the road could be number 260

Most of the time it's 1-100 or maybe more, depends on what city and street.

 

Depends how much free land is around where you live, because if new houses spring up, they need to be able to have numbers that actually fit in and make sense.

the {}'s are houses with their number next to them. in between the | |'s is the road, if you get what i mean?

ive never heard them going up by fours tho :S

They're the same here, I've never seen them go up in 4s :S

 

i think its cuz like each lot is numbered...and some places might take up 2 lots or something so like if the lot ever breaks up it wont screw up the whole block or w.e. if they needed to they can just add the number in there
