Homelessness in your area

I see tons of homeless here in the OC but when I lived in LA for 2 years, there were literally homeless people EVERYWHERE. At a certain point they become like fire hydrants or hedges- you stop acknowledging them because of how many there are. I'm sure its a lot worse in third world countries or places like India/Russia/china.

Is this a big deal where you are?

 

If you think the OC is bad, drive 6 hours up to San Francisco and see how good you have it there compared to here.

 

Here in Toronto all the homeless people seem to have some sort of mental illness. I was born in Mexico and i don't really see homeless people there. It's odd.

yeah, every time i walk past these niggas at the store they asking me for $1 or something.. can't even go in the store because they know you have money if you're going in the store, kno what i mean?

 

Not really because there isn't any property that isn't gated/guarded. Living in the suburbs has it's perks.

 

There's a lot of homeless people where I go to school. They can get annoying sure, but I try to remember they're just people who aren't as fortunate as me or my friends. I don't give them money since my brother got his wallet stolen when he tried giving a homeless person a dollar a few years back, but every now and then I'll buy some food to give a few of them. One time I gave a an old man a $15 chipotle giftcard. He looked like the happiest person in the world.

 

Last time I saw a homeless man I told him sorry I only have a $20 on me, he proceeded to tell me that he hopes I get a stye in my eye. If he would have been cool I would have given him a few bucks after I paid for my lunch and got change, but he can go fuck himself for all I care.

 

With the New Zealand welfare system there's not really any reason for homeless to exist so I don't really pity them at all, there's a few but it's not overpowering or anything

 

When I lived in upstate NY, we saw homelessness everywhere. I remember this one guy being on the same corner to the entrance of the highway for at least 5 years. Any time we'd get on the highway, he was there. I'm a sucker for giving whatever small bills I have on me to the people standing on the corner even if some may be liars. If I have time, I usually go get them food. My father faced homelessness for a while so I try not to judge/assume.

 

It's not so bad in my hometown, I don't actually ever remember seeing a homeless person here. If you go to a nearby city though, even in the nice areas there are maybe 1-2 people just bumming out on the street. Some have it harder than others and when you're down it is hard to get back up, so it's not fair to judge anyone for it.

 

I have a little in my area, but it's honestly really rare. Though I know if you drive about 30 mins out you'll hit a ton in the city area.

 

I'm not sympathetic to able body homeless people in first world countries. There's no reason they can't get a job and rent a room somewhere.

 

Imagine you're 18 and got kicked out by your parents, no other family. You don't have a lot of options, no one is gonna employ a homeless person. Friends charity only lasts so long before you become a burden so you can't rely on others forever.

 

Amen to this. I've seen it happen to some people I used to be close with and it's so unfortunate, but it does happen.

 

There's not a whole load in my area but it isn't uncommon in London. UK does have a welfare system...although sky rocket housing prices.. even the outer areas of London going into greater London are becoming more pricey. There's so many opportunities for homeless people here though so I think most homeless people just don't want to try those routes. Food/drink over money though.

 

If u live in ends there r loads of them. If you live near roma gyspys, its not very sightly

Maybe it's cos I don't have money myself so I'm purposely not looking for them. Definitely the gypsys.. babies.. in packs mainly around busy shopping areas.

 

Yeah forest gate. The east ends. And yeah, tons of homeless people here. Not many whites unless you count druggies tho
