Can some1 read over this to make sure its good. i had to do it about global warming affects on animals and NEED a good grade
Global warming warms the earth at a very fast rate. When Global warming occurs, it has a harsh effect on animals. Global warming affects animals differently especially polar bears and other animals that live near the ice caps, but there are many ways for people to lessen the damage on the animals and plants.
Global warming is the increase of the earth’s average temperature and has accounted for a shift to an earlier spring for 677 species studied by the University of Texas. Although when you consider those animals, plants and other organisms are dying because of the increase of the average temperature (National Geographic). The increase causes other effects like making sea levels rise and melting ice caps. The increased temperatures expected with global warming will cause stable regions to fall unstable. Also when the climate changes it may disrupt the hibernation and migration patterns of animals and birds causing them to come out of hibernation early because of the warmer temperatures. When the animals come out of hibernation they try to find vegetation but can’t because it is still covered in snow but the animals are arriving earlier every year. All different kinds of animals are affected such as beetles. The Spruce bark beetles have boomed in Alaska and chewed up 4 million spruce trees according to National Geographic.
Animals that are effected are marmots which “usually hibernate for eight months are emerging earlier risking starvation as they wait longer and longer for the snow to melt, Marmots are appearing 38 days earlier than they did 23 years earlier (Environmental News Network Staff)†says the Environmental News Network Staff (ENNS). There are good things to global warming few but some. Such as the rodents “Marmots detect warmer temperatures was an advantage because it signaled an early spring which resulted in a longer growing season and survival rate and reproduction (National Geographic)â€. It’s not only rodents that are effected penguins to flowers are too! One of the worst is the Adeline penguins. Since, they live in Antarctica and the polar caps are melting “their numbers have fallen from 32,000 breeding pairs to 11,000 in only 20 years†according to National Geographic. Some animals will cop with global warming by moving north to colder temperatures and survive with greater numbers. Others will move north and become extinct.
Many animals are affected by global warming harshly. Some of the animals that have it the worst are the animals located near the polar caps such as the polar bear and the penguin. Many people are trying to help such as Weiss, Kenneth who says “two thirds of the polar bear population cold be gone by mid-century if current trends continueâ€(cite here where you got this quote) . Since polar bears are used to cold temperatures and are expert hunters on sea ice but not very good on land, they loose more than 2 pounds a day in summer until ice reforms. This is a shocking contrast to the pop-culture images of smiling bears guzzling Coke in commercials and plump polar bears at zoos. Global warming is also breaking ice caps up causing it harder for them to catch food during there summer seasons. He is also trying to use the Endangered Species Act to force federal limits on the green house gases, which are known as a main cause of global warming. Weiss is also trying to get the bears listed on the Endangered Species Act, which would also help to prevent a coal-fired plant up to 1000 miles away.
When all is said and done, there is no way to end global warming. It affects everyone no matter their place in the world or stand on views. There is no way to stop it. However, there are many ways to slow it down. If the United States were to passes laws on global warming other countries in the world would have to do the same to help slow it down enough to make a large difference to the animals.
