Have we devolved?

23mk11e.jpg

The above picture is a perfect example.. We now live in a world where we'd basically be doomed without electricity.
The majority of us can't live in the wilderness, if you put basic tools in front of us and threw us in the wild without any clothes / food / electricity. We would most likely die.

So do you think that we have devolved in a sense? Would we survive if there was a global black-out?

I personally think no, kids these days are so glued to their "xbox" they haven't learned basic survival skills.
I never hear of "Scouts or Girl scouts" or anything anymore..

The world has been materialized and we'd most likely be doomed if anything were to happen.

It's not so much that we've devolved, as it is that our brains have grown. Over the course of history humans have generally gotten smarter, naturally, and as a result, do things quicker, use less energy, which results in a steady decrease of masculine and instinct. Our brains have become bigger than our muscles, in a sense.

People used to have to be able to think in order to survive, but now a days, anyone anywhere can survive ( to an extent ).

Isn't that evolution? Now instead of worrying about survival we can focus on other things like science and technology.

What you've got to remember is that the world is constantly changing in many complexed ways, and thus humans are most certainly evolving, rather than devolving.

e·volve/iˈvälv/
Verb:

Develop gradually, esp. from a simple to a more complex form: "the Gothic style evolved steadily and naturally from the Romanesque".
(with reference to an organism or biological feature) Develop over successive generations, esp. as a result of natural selection

If people were to become, as you've put it, glued to their Xbox's, and they continued to do so for generations- People in general would gain faster reaction times, more acute vision, etc.

Evolution baby!

I haven't seen a kid now a days that doesn't play video games for the majority of their time, other than school.
Meaning our future is pretty much screwed, their brains rot. It isn't opinion when I say video games rot your mind. Because they do, aswell as T.v.

We're going to have a generation of brain dead fatties basically.

That of course depends on how, you are caring your health.
I my self are going to the gym 7 times a week, and building my muscles.

Of course alot of these new kids doesnt knows what to do, however once they gets older, i'd say about 50%+ of them would be able to survive without any major problems, if a global black out happend.

I spend a lot of time on the computer, yet I still know how to survive, mainly because I watched Ray Mears and Bear Grylls and found it very interesting so I decided to research the subject and put it into practice.

If there was a black out though, people would still have their homes. Everyone knows to boil water and knows how to plant seeds. It's only the complete idiots who wouldn't survive.

If you find the mean activity level of humans now, and compare them to humans thousands of years ago I bet you'll find a huge difference. Also, people will only push themselves when they need to; fight or flight. If a tiger is chasing you, be running extremely fast, however that is not a good representative of how physically capable you are as you cannot run that fast forever. You will slow down and get eaten. If however you were strong, and fast you may evade the tiger and perhaps turn around and kill it. People of the modern age, if they had a knife would probably be dinner to the tigers cubs, but the Mongols would probably have a nice feast.

Compare the Mongols and the Romans to the Americans. Who's more physically able?

A human would never be able to kill a tiger with only a knife no matter what time period they are from, it is physically impossible for a human to run faster than a tiger running at almost 30mph

Human's thinking is evolving and devolving simultaneously in a manner of speaking. There become more and more 'brain dead fatties' as Lym mentioned, however, with current free speech, there are a few people rising up to challenge boundaries and learn new things. Aslong as we learn new things we are evolving, just the rate of evolution differs alot per person.
