[DENIED] Discord anti scam bot

If I recall correctly there has been a suggestion about a mass PM being sent out if somebody in the rsgp trading community scams out, however I have a suggestion.

If somebody scams out and it's done by the proper ways resulting in a RAS being opened and closed, what if the moderator who closes it only has to PM/do a discord command which results into a PM being sent out on discord to people who "subscribe" to such a notification.



Concept would be as follows:

A discord bot is added to sythe discord, if you add it it will automatically add you back -> This means you are "subscribed".
If somebody happens to scam and the report is closed by a moderator, the moderator can now proceed to PM the bot or do a command (this authorisation is only for moderators of sythe then) where they give the info of what happened.
The bot proceeds to mass PM everybody in his friendlist with the information the Moderator has given thus everybody who wants to be informed is informed.


This ofcourse can also be used for other stuff, for example a quick way to get a weekly sythe newsletter out. This would be a great job for the CDT people to give out information about what's going on on sythe and plans for events, givinging people a bigger engagement with each other.


It's just a suggestion, this bot would ofcourse need to be made but considering it's actually just a mass PM bot it's rather easy to make.

 

seems like a great idea only time iv been scammed since i was active was to a scam quit that i wasnt aware was ongoing.

 

This would be cool as fuck. I feel like im always behind on who's scam quitting this week. Community side is dope too, maybe more people would pay attention to what the CDT does.

 

Good idea but this won't happen.

Shin is very oldschool when it comes to allowing new bots into the Sythe Discord. A lot of other bots that would help in overall discord safety were suggested and then shut down / denied.

Maybe a role within the discord itself that can be tagged instead.
Achieves the same result, I suppose.

 

Good idea, I hope Shin will make an exception for the protection of Sythe members.

 

I believe Discord's rate limits for sending DM's is the same as sending messages to a server, which would be 5 messages every 5 seconds. If say 2,000 were to subscribe, it would take 2,000 seconds to send all the DM's or 33 minutes and 20 seconds. That isn't feasible.

It would be a lot better for a channel to be set up instead. Members could type a command for a role to be added which will allow them to view a channel where notifications could be sent about reports. I wouldn't make the role mention-able because other members would probably abuse it and staff members could use the @here or @everyone tag in that channel instead to notify subscribers.

 

I didn't realise the rate limit would take such time.
I have been reading up on it and it does seem there are only reasonably "annoying" ways to get rid of this, one of them being using proxies by running the bot via multiple IP's, this would still be a massive rate limit but if you think about it: 5 IP's would already deduct the 2K people message from 33 minutes to 6.

This really isn't a viable solution as it would require much more coding work then previously discussed so I see that the channel idea is probably the way to go.

It would ofcourse been amazing if you had a bot that you could have the messages sent to you with some workaround, that way people who are not in sythe discord but in ONE OF THE WAY TO MANY trading discord they could have the same bot there to inform their users.

Support as fuck, this dosent seem to hard to be made. the discord bot should just idle in the sythe official discord and if that ever happens a command along with the persons sythe username is typed to send a mass message to everyone in sythes server.

 

You could just have a new 'antiscam' discord channel where users can join that channel to 'opt in' to @everyone shout outs if people scam.

I'm not entirely sure what the best method for this is, but there should definitely be more measures for when a major member of the community, such as @Bolt or @Plank Gang etc., get more than one scam reports within a certain time period. Discord is likely the best outlet for doing so, which means we just need to determine the best way to reach a broad audience (since not everyone is in the Sythe discord, especially new members).

 

I definitely support!! i think we need more ways on linking discord with sythe...I wonder if we could make a spot on the sythe page that houses all known UIDs of scammers on a database so of course someone would be putting entrys in daily. but you would basically enter the persons UID your talkin to on discord and it would come up as flagged ect... i know people just can make separate discord easy but if we make it to where you have to register one discord UID with each sythe user account that way its really deterring having to keep making accounts to scam ect...

If this were possible I'm sure Alex would implement it, but I don't think this will ever have a place, if anything there could be a moderated channel where mods make an announcement for someone scam quitting etc. I'd support, but I don't see a bot happening.

 

As shin said, this is not feasible though staff (like video) already tend to use the news sub to warn @everyone against current scams. Ill deny the actual suggestion (a discord bot) but will see if a specific server channel can be created for these type of warnings.
