Why are their so much Scammers/Kids in Sythe

It ticks me off that half the people on the Sythe market are Scammers, usually they are kids. Is there a way to make the Sythe market more secure and less scams?

 

Yes, make sure you read all the stickies and never trade without a PM. If neither party wants to go first, then use a free or paid MM - there are plenty of them available.

I agree with above. Most people aren't scammed because of the cleverness of the scammer, it's because of their own carelessness or stupidity..

 

It's not just on Sythe. Scammers exist on every blackmarket/craiglist forum.

 

Given the worst case that third party non-verified MMs may not be trustworthy, I had a thought that it'd probably be possible to implement an anonymous MM system that users apply to use via the website and are simply given an obscure username to deal with, guaranteed that the MMs would be logged, verified and held accountable for the cash and goods they hold. They could even turn a profit by taking a cut. No bias because the traders don't know the MM and visa versa.

However, this would be an absolute BITCH to set up, would require website support / functionality, would require revisions to maximise security, and you'd need to trust that the admins that appointed the MM knew what they were doing. There'd also have to be a serious logging system in place to ensure the MM doesn't just run off.

i.e., this musing really holds no sway, but it does answer your question: there is a WAY, in fact many WAYS, just not many of them are completely viable.

The best way not to be scammed is simply not to trade at this website, IMHO. I've never bought anything from here and I've never been scammed. Apart from that you either use what is available here in terms of trade security, or suck it up and accept the losses.

 

Tbh, it's Runescape. Look at the RaS section, there are basically no scam reports for anything other than RS. I don't even think that most of the staff would be able to identify if a scam took place in most of the other markets.

That system just replaces the MM section of this forum. It doesn't stop charge backs / recoveries which is the main scam.

 

The point would be removing bias and the likelihood of MM exploitation by way of official logs and (apart from for administration) anonimisation of both parties. Keep in mind I don't actually use the markets so I have no idea how trustworthy the people actually are. It was just a musing more than anything else; OP asked if there was a way to secure trades.

 

First, i would like to tell a little story. He ^ asked me to be a MM. I went in the chat but the other person was REFUSING and he was telling he doesnt care, Ash have to go first. I then said to Ash to not trade him without a middleman and that he should report for TWC as he was very suspicious. So yea we talk a little about how this guy seems really like a scammer (like it was obvious -.-) and then Ash came up to me the day after... He is like : I just got scammed! I was like wtf... He said that he went first because the scammer proved the account. But I told Ash to not trade him multiple times and he got first?! This was really confusing and making no sense to me.. Ash, before saying everyone scams you, well try to be safe before and not trading if someones tells you he is a scammer! Ash even told me that the guy had 2 reports already before he traded him (WTF)

Just DONT trade if its the same story -.-

 

Well there are a few ways to prevent scammers some mentioned above
First of all trade with trusted ppl and if u don't find them trusted enough use a free or official mm. Check their Skype profile and make sure it matches the 1 stated and make them pm u on sythe with part of the Skype conversation to double confirm its them. When using a mm, they will usually make u post and fill up a form, in that case make them quote both party confirming they are talking to u on Skype in a group chat Hope this helps

 

Impossible to get rid of scammers, the only thing you can do is limit yourself in who you buy off of.

You can reduce the chances of being scammed to 1-2% by just being smart.

 

Like others have stated. Use a middleman, request pms, and trade with trusted users. If you have any other questions feel free to pm me. Closed.
