    Hard Drive Prices

Currently internal hard drives on Newegg are roughly twice as expensive due to "shortages".

Originally I thought it was a glitch, and submitted a bug report but received no response. Pretty embarrassing that they won't admit to price gouging.

I'm confused as to why they raised the prices instantly, rather than just selling their stock at the regular price. It's pathetic to see a company taking advantage of misinformed consumers.

Currently awaiting a response from Newegg public relations.

Thailand floods have raised the prices.

There isn't even a shortage. It's Newegg taking advantage of customers.

Edit: There isn't a shortage yet.

Here's two things, newegg doesn't decide the prices, manufactures do.
And, there will be a shortage as some harddrive producers can't produce the majority of there drives due to floods.

No. Retailers have a stock of hard drives acquired before the shortage, and are now reacting by gouging prices. The manufacturers couldn't get away with selling 160GB hard drives for $99.99 each.

Yes they do, but once that stock is out, it's out till they can start producing them again.
They're just low end drives, no one buys them anyway.

Newegg does get to decide what they sell things at. Yeah they are given a MSRP but that doesn't mean Newegg HAS to follow it. The only HDD manufacturer effected by the monsoons in Thailand is WD, yet everyone's prices have hiked. It's a combination of price gouging AND the floodings (and China embargoing their REM exports, but that's a whole other story). Manufacturers other than WD are just seizing an opportunity to make money.
