    [Guide] Compiling Mangos on Windows

This is not how to set up your own server. This is how to compile your own Mangos core and binaries.

    What you need:
-A version of Microsoft Visual C++ (2008 express available for free here)
-An SVN client (TortoiseSVN available for free here)
-Microsoft Platform SDK (available for freehere, thanks to elegos87)

    1. Install stuff
    -Install Visual C++
    -Install the Platform SDK
    -Install TortoiseSVN
*If you don't know how to install these applications, then you don't have the required brain power to run a WoW server

    Updating an already compiled core
-Right click your mangos compile folder and select "update"
-If there's an update available then it will be automatically downloaded to the folder and will replace any older files: when it's done, it will display a revision number, this is the revision your Mangos has been updated to
-Make sure all your important files were updated correctly

    Make the Mangos SVN folder
-Find a nice place on your harddrive and make a folder (this is where all your downloaded Mangos stuff will be placed)
-Right-click the folder and select "SVN Checkout": in the URL repository textbox, put in
    Code:
    https://mangos.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/mangos/trunk/
    -Start the download
-Apply any core patches you may have

    Configuring Visual C++
-Open Visual C++ and in the menu bar at the top, click "Tools" then Options
-Click the "+" next to Projects and Solutions, then click VC++ Directories
-Make sure the drop down menu days "Executable Files"
-Click the open button near the right of the dialog window, and make sure the path is:
    Code:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Platform SDK for Windows Server 2003 R2\Bin
-Click the drop down menu and make sure it says "Include Files", then click open and make the path:
    Code:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Platform SDK for Windows Server 2003 R2\Include
-Click the drop down menu and make sure it says "Library Files", then click open and make the path:
    Code:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Platform SDK for Windows Server 2003 R2\Lib
    Compiling
-Go to your Mangos compile folder, then into the "win" folder
    -Open the "VC80.sln" file
-Click "Build" in the menu and select "Configuration Manager"
-Click "Release" in the drop down box for "Active Solution Configuration"
-The "Active Solution Platform" should be set to "Win32"
-Then, click "Build" in the menu and select "Build Solution"
-If you get any errors, click "Build" in the menu and select "Clean Solution", then restart the compile
-Note: this WILL take a long time - You might get some warning messages...If you do, don't worry about it, it's normal

    Building
-Add all the .exe files, .dll files and .pdb files in the compile folder into your Mangos folder

If you compile vmaps from 3.0.3, will you be able to use them on a 2.4.3 core? I know it's a different version but it shouldn't matter because all the files from 2.4.3 will be in there... if they are not different from 3.0.3 it should only make the file bigger, compiling from 3.0.3.

    Any ideas?

Edit: I tried and it did not work! Assembling form 2.4.3 now.

    PS: Sweet toturial!

I am a little confused about where to put everything. Could someone send me a screenshot of all the folder they have and the organization. Theres the compile folder and the source folder. Is the compile folder where I run the server from?
